Bending the turbo water pipe - suggestions?
#32
I started off bending the original pipe which worked but after the 3rd turbo and multiple "adjustments" it was looking rather cobbled. I ended up removing it completely and just using standard brass pipe fittings from Home Depot, painted black.
Here's lots of pics with everything installed (everybody loves pics right, lol)

Race Car
I still have a horse in this race, so I check in every once in a while.
Maybe McMaster doesn't have what you need, but Stewart Warner makes all sorts of brass adapters for gauges and whatnot in both metric and SAE. If you want to try and find the correct size fittings, I'd look there.

Well, the best way is to bend it with pipe bending machine, like this one:

just fwiw i'm sorry to resurrect this old thread but i am having this issue in 2022 with my LR super 53.. i really thought this would have been sorted and the LR HP kits would include it with wet turbos but anyway..
i saw the comments about the adapters and i found this.. 3/8 male npt to m16x1.5 female.

The 3/8 - M16 thread may work. But it's not ideal. We machine inhouse our own brass fittings M - F M16 x 1.5, I may have a few left. Drop me an email on Tuesday, I'll check for you.

I didn't get the part I had ordered according to the picture, instead I got a ss adapter. It will provide the necessary clearance but I need to find thicker crush washers because the threads for the banjo bolt bottom out otherwise with just the two standard crush washers and I really don't like the idea of using three.
Will update again if I get the brass one, but this will work though not ideal as it's actually two pieces.

It's looking good I guess but the forward intake manifold support that mounts next to the turbo is not going to fit without a lot of modification/ trimming... I may still try to get another one of these pipes and have a bung welded onto it

An alternative to bending the tube is to make a spacer of aluminum and drill out another bolt of suitable length, with cross holes so it becomes a longer banjo bolt. That will space the tube out from the cartridge enough to clear the compressor housing without bending the tube. Use aluminum washers under the new bolt and on both sides of the spacer.
