Pretty much anywhere in the US it should be assumed pump gas contains 10% ethanol unless they specify it doesn't. I do know for a fact the Shell stations here and the 94 at Sunoco contain 10%. There is a Marathon near my house which has a sign on the pumps stating it contains no ethanol with 93 as thier highest. Before E85, I only used the 0% ethanol gas when filling up for a road trip for better gas mileage.
What bugs me most is that gas with 10% ethanol isnt any cheaper, in fact at Sunoco it's more expensive then the 0% ethanol at Marathon.

Tom,
I regularly get 100 octaine at the pump here in NorCal. Union76 on Almaden in San Jose, and I do not remember the name of the station but it is on Santa Teresa in Gilroy. And of course it is available at all the race tracks like Laguna Seca and Sears Point. You can get up to 104 unleaded at the tracks.

To make a comment on the first page noting no specified rating for the UK; -The usual rating system for the UK is RON alone instead of (R+M) divided by two... in other words, it's the AVERAGE of the R and M numbers.
This gives a higher number than (R+M)/2 alone (which we use in the US) but how MUCH higher varies very slightly depending on the fuel's M octane number... Usually the MON is in the order of 11 points lower, so the (R+M)/2 is usually five or six points lower.
..I can tell you, that confused the heck out of me when I first moved to the USA from England, and saw the octane numbers on the pumps over here!

Illinois varies, depending on where you are in the state. The state maintains 9 different grades of fuel (3 grades x 3 geographical locations) year around and it changes depending on season (summer, winter and spring/fall), so there is a combined total of 27 different grades of fuel. So if you wonder why fuel is so expensive in IL compared to everywhere else in the country, even though they have many refineries there, now you know.
Northern IL - 91
Central IL - 91, sometimes 92 (depending on gas station)
Southern IL - 92, sometimes 93 (depending on gas station)
So how do you mark IL? 91 since the majority of the population is concentrated around Chicago?
