What tire and wheel size is best suited for the track?
Looking to purchase a set of wheels and tires to do HPDE events for my 86 944 Turbo? I do not want any rubbing issues.

Pretty new to HPDE (4 track events with my NSX). Not in a big rush to upgrade from the Phonedials. I just want to know what to look for in the classifieds that may pop up and be a good economical fit. I really need to improve my skills first.

I am guessing a turbo charges NSX would be fun on the track. I would agree and stick with what you have at the moment until you get some more seat time in. If however you see a great deal go fo it

The 600 horse NSX is a bit much for my first DE car. Thats why I went with th 944 turbo. I have always liked them and they are a lot of car for the money. This is going to be my dedicated track car.

get a new set of toyo r888s don't trust tires that you don't know the history...too risky.
some people here like the nittos for a less expensive option

Are you replacing your street tires for a all around track/street tire? If so, just look for a low rated tire under 300 TWR. The lower TWR the stickier. Then of course, they wear a lot faster.
Just run you stock rims. This is a DE and not a race. Unless you got $$ to blow, why?
If your looking for slicks, check some used ones in the ads in the back of Sportscar or Panorama. You can pick up some heat cycled slicks for dimes on the dollars that have ton of laps left in them.
Don't mess with bigger, new rims. Total waste of $$ for DEs IMO. Remember, unless you up the power, the bigger you go, the slower you will be out of the corners.

I disagree with data.My only engine mods are chip and exhust.I just started doing DE's last year and my lap times were close to 2min.That was on 17's with Yoko 048's.245 frnt 255 rear on twists.I switched recently to 9 and 11 inch wide Kinesis Supercups w/Toyo R888's, 255f and275r,and I have much higher corner exit speed and now I can run a 1:45 all day

If you started driving events last year I would give 10 out of the 15 second to driver skill improvement but still a very interesting fact since the tire type is very similar ..
I would have been happy with a set of 17" rear wheels but i ended up with 18x 10's as they were just easier to come across.
