Default Air suspension?

Alright guys, don't throw the book at me just yet! I'm thinking about doing a veedub-style '44 some time in the future. Not to my current fast-road/track car, but to a very original and mint condition car in the next couple of years. You know the style I mean right? BBS 3-piece split rims and very, very low, smoothed bodywork (side trims, rear bumper trim, door locks etc...) and perhaps a single wiper? A lot of those guys run air suspension and I see you can get it for a 951 in the states. Do you of you have any experience of this?

air or gas suspension is sort of like carbon fibre try do it cheap and everyone is laughing at you .
do it expensive do it well and every one just scratches there head and say's WTF !! WOW ??!?!?
current F1 cars have done away with springs and run on pressured nitrogen with an ultra advanced coplex matix of clever valves pumps and resivoirs and vales .
I have never seen an effective set up on a track car but with a little reserch it may be good on a street car

I have played with the idea of Techart style air system which helps you to go over high pumps. Do you have a URL to the system which fits under 951?

I just did a google search and came up with the following...

Those "kits" look more one-size-fits-all thing, not a true 944 setup. I was thinking more a solution like Techart's Noselift system.

You can find a hydraulic system here:

http://us.kwsuspension.de/us/kw_hls.php

You only need a coilover suspension

That's what i am looking for. Seeing how they have done it, makes me wonder how difficult it would be to produce such a kit for 951's. Have to talk to my CNC man

You can buy a kit for the 951 it cost 2500 Euro. With a KW V3 Suspension you haven't modify anything.

Aahah! That looks like it'll do the job. I'll be requiring front and rear axle lift though, which I assume this system might struggle with on a torsion bar set-up. I believe there are systems available for other torsion bar cars that effectively 'twist' the bars to achieve the up and down movement?

Somehow i have get used to have parts more cost effective way. 2500€ is way over my budjet. Most likely we can produce such a kit about 750-1000€ quite easily, especially if use air spring components. I suppose i have to see my friend who owns a hot rod shop and deals with air springs all the time.... http://www.herstiautoshop.com

What comes to rear torsion bars, just check out what happens when you lift your cars rear end. I suppose there will not be any issues.

Not sure what you mean Olli? What I want really, is a system that allows me to run a low ride height for fast-road driving, and a really-low ride height for when the car is stationary at shows etc... by which I mean undrivably low!

The air springs were great on my Range Rover. I'd go the the sand dunes and hit a button for an instant soft 4" lift. After a day of playing on the dunes I'd simply get back on the highway and the system automatically lowered down into highway mode which dropped it 1.5" lower than normal and stiffened up the suspension. Personally, I'd leave the air-ride to the trucks and not Porsches.
