Default LS1 conversion

After much gut wrenching thought & strategizing I have decided to go a different route with my car. I had wanted to go to a 996 but after looking at the depressed race car market I knew I could not make a change by taking such a loss on the sale of my car. So I was pretty much relegated to keeping the car.

Now for the 2nd chapter of the 951, after looking at budget for building an awesome 3 liter turbo motor & having it done correctly I realized I could not afford to go that route & have to do it again & again. I decided NA is the way to go.

I contacted Scott @ Renegade hybrids who was quick to help with great advice. For the cost of that 3 liter motor & tuning I can do an LS1 swap. So that’s were we are doing. I drove one of Scott’s LS1's in Feb & it was a blast the LS1 looks like it belongs in the 944.

I put the kit on order. God willing everything will be here the beginning of Dec & the car will be ready for a test the 1st week of 2010. I’m switching NASA race classes from the German Touring Series to Super Touring next year. Ill be racing a few 355 Ferrari challenge cars a 360 Challenge & a C5 Vette I can’t wait! I will be limited to 8.7 to 1 HP to weight ratio.

Can't wait to see how this turns out.
I had some more questions but just answered them on my own...
Do you use the ls1 stock ecu with this conversion or what?

Do they do LS2 swaps as well? I've been considering LS2 swapping my 951 when I get bored of the 2.5L Turbo after a few years or so.

congratulations on your decision. only sad thing is that [i assume] you won't be running the car as a daily driver and really stick it to them !

The LS series engines ( LS-1, LS-2, LS-3, etc) are all the same. But unless money is no object, there are other ways besides RH. About half the cost.... do some more research. I would hate to see you spend several grand in what you could get done in less than 2.... just FYI...

In my experience you pay for what you get and no all the LS engines are not the same. Infact the late model stuff(LS3) is night and day different from the old LS1.

I should have been more specific... I was talking about the mounting and physical dimensions of the blocks.... There are several performance differences as well as different displacements.... All LS series engines have the same exterior dimensions...

I went with the LS-2 as it is a 6.0L instead of the 5.7. Also has the DBW system, so a cleaner install....

Congratulations Rene! You will have a whole new appreciation for the the 944 chassis. Best thing I've ever done to a car.

Yeah big difference between a ls2 and a ls1. I understand what you mean now. Sounds like a beast of a car for sure.

I am going with a MEFI stand alone ECU & wiring harness. I understand there are others out there besides RH. I like there stuff its well engineered & I can’t afford the time to reinvent the wheel my 1st race is at the end of Jan & I need a few test & tune days before then.
