Gotta convert the engine to euro-spec, but something about that car just mesmerizes me. Maybe it's because I already have a transaxle Porsche?

I want it about ten times as badly as the E24 M6. And they've come down so far in price these days, it's very easy to pick one up in very nice condition. Which makes them all the more dangerous.

No hate here. Before I picked up the 951, I almost bought a 635csi with the intention on shoe-horning an American V8 in it. The swaps are rare, but out there.

I spotted 3 of my favorites! 951, Alfa GTV6, and the SVX.
951's really aren't as bad as people say they are. I mean honestly. It's like my Porsche Specialist says... "Yeah the parts can be pricey if you buy from Porsche, but there are several places to buy from, and having work done for you will cost, but these older Porsches are built with parts that were meant to last. A Starter might go out, say once, in the car's life. Or not at all. How often do you hear about a Chevy starter going out? And what's the price difference between the two?"

personally I think the 944/951 is reliable... but most of us have to get the maintenance up to date and until that's done it's seems to be unreliable. Just my insight, could be wrong... usually am

I have to agree on the 944 but in reality its just the engine compared to other cars of its time.
The engine is a boat anchor it has some really cool stuff on the internals that make it great for making power. The problem is usually most of the stock stuff was poorly implemented or complemented by other parts. Lets also mention its LARGE physically and maintance is a nightmare. You have many problem areas that are timely to repair.
My Top 5 Most hated 944/944Turbo (just makes it that much worse) repairs.
5. Speed/Ref Sensors (placed nicely close between engine and firewall. Also, why do I have to remove you when doing a clutch on a stock car? couldn't they have just cut that 1/2 of aluminum like I do so the bellhousing can just slide off? NOPE!)
4. Front Engine Seals (4 Radial Gaskets/ 4 O-Rings/ 2 clear plastic seals. Sure, Thats going to just be totally fun and leak free.... )
3. Cam Tower Gasket. (Seriously why do I have to take apart all the timing components to fix this? Why can't it just have a damn valve cover like an S2? Lets, not even mention the 100% failure rate of the factory cork gasket)
2. Turbo clutch on a 1pc crossover. (Yea, I went there. Hell, a 2pc still sucks compared to an N/A)
1. Balance shaft O-rings (back of the shaft) They cause a vac leak and on every motor they are leaking just about. It litterally takes a CRAPLOAD of time to fix them (on a turbo OMFG you got to be kidding me right?) not to mention you might as well pull the engine to do the job. Its just another reason not to have balance shafts installed in a motor.

Nightmare? Naw. I can see how some people can claim it, but my 951 has only been on a tow truck once in the 5 years I've owned it. my 924S I could say differently about...
