New Mobil 1 Racing Oil with "Double the Zinc"
Anyone try this or have feedback ? I always heard that Mobil 1 "wasn't as good as it used to be" because they took out the zinc - or is it "ZDDP" - anyways, not to start another motor oil debate - just wondering what the story is on this oil.

Definately not for you penny pinchers out there - $100 for 6 quarts ! :O

With our older engine I wouldn't go lower than 5, but have no good reason for saying that.
I used to work for Shell and I think all the major brand oils are good. Shell makes Pennzoil, Quaker State, Crappy Tire oil in Canada and a bunch of others, plus their own Shell brands. Everyone uses the same blend stocks and many come out of the same plant.
Like gas prices, not worth getting obsessed about unless you happen to like getting obsessed.

mobile one oil shrinks oil seals, and causes leaks, redline (ester based) swells seals, and has always had plenty of zddp in all their oils. use redline for synthetic, otherwise use kendall, or if you want boutique non synthetic, use swepco or joe gibbs or brad penn

Also, on the mobile 1 website, the "regular" oil (0-5-10w20-30-40) have less ZDDP. The 15w50 formula was never changed. It still contains the "old" amount of zinc....because its not an oil recommended by any manufacturer, so its not a commonly used oil.

Here is the current product data sheet for all Mobil One Engine oils: http://www.mobil.com/usa-english/mot...duct_guide.pdf
Based on the recommended 1200 ppm Phosphorus and Zinc levels for our engines, the best choice appears to be 15W-50 for street use and 0W-50 for racing applications.
