Default Attn: Heavy pressure-plate users...

For all you people running heavy aftermarket pressure plates. I've now broken two clutch forks. The first two pictures are of a hardened fork; the last two pictures are of a normal stock unit.
Both broke at exactly the same place. Pictures are worth a 1000 words... In this case, mostly cuss words

looks like someone needs to program up a billet one. which clutch are you using? I also wonder if somehow you don't have too much slave cylinder travel perhaps? Def strange to see that many repeat failures indicates to me that there is a problem elsewhere. I wonder if you could hard weld the area thats breaking beforehand to help as well.

Sucks that happened to a blazack fork (I assume it is because of the brass bushings)

KEP stg 2 is the pressure plate. Yes, the first picture is a Blaszak modded one.

If I could find a billet fork I would buy it - nobody makes one, that I know of. So I'm having one welded (proper rod, stick welded). Hopefully that will keep it from breaking again.

Since the KEP stg 2, I don't think I've driven 10,000 miles without breaking a fork...

I'm really sorry to hear this mate -- this has also happened to a friend of mine as well who also had a KEP St. 2.

This is exactly what prompted me to get a KEP st. 1. Granted, I don't produce as much power as you (Vitesse St. 3).

I also run a KEP PP and broke a fork.

This is what we did to mine. Added steel to both sides, heat treated, TIG welded and ground down to fit the housing. Have not had any problems since.

This is what the break looked like FWIW.

Oh no, what were the symptoms? Noise of some kind, I hope?

Its interesting - I've almost never heard of anyone breaking a fork before... But it does seem to be a problem that just isn't well known.

Running a SPEC setup high torque.

If he can build something I will let people know

Thanks again for the heads up

Jason
No problem - let us know what you come up with.

KEP stg 1 or 2?

Not too much of an advanced warning... The clutch goes from being a normal engagement point one day, and then the next day, it engages right off of the floor, and is difficult to get into gear.

That is what I did after I broke a fork. TIG welded it then quenched it. I started with a used one though. No problems so far. I also polished the top of the area where it cracks to reduce stress risers.

I will have the motor out next week and will try to get some shots.

What about shot peening and or cryo treatment, can't hurt.
