Default 3" to 2.5" cat back adapter plate

I recently picked up a SFR 3" testpipe w/cat and wanted to still use my B&B 2.5" cat back muffler. Didn't like the idea of the exhaust flow having an abrupt step down from 3" to 2.5", so I made this 3/8" thick 304 SS adapter plate to better smooth the transition. Sent a drawing to Stainlessworks.net on Monday and got the plate delivered by FedEx on Thursday. Hit it with a die grinder to make the chamfer today. Will have a 2.5" copper gasket on back side and 3" copper gasket on front side. Going to put it on this weekend. Is this cool or crazy?

I'm going from a mandrel bent 2 1/2" test pipe to 3" catback...wouldn't think the opposite would be the best idea.

wanna trade

I'm good with the setup. I have to run a cat in Austin, so SFR 3" w/Magnaflow cat is about the best I can do and still be legal. Figure necking down to 2.5" shouldn't give up too much since I have a cat restricting the flow further upstream. Also, like the idea of 2.5" cat back muffler may be a bit quieter than a 3". I like the compromise in theory. Will see how it works out when I hit the road.

What other mods?

If it is relatively stock 2.5" should be fine.

Have a Vitesse AFM chip for stock injectors and FPR, good up to 15psi. Original K26/6. CV for boost control. Putting on a Lindsey DP wastegate in single port mode at same time as the SFR test pipe w/cat. Next step may be a MAF for better drivability. Not planning on pushing it too much further than this.

I really need one of those, I've been looking for a 2.5" testpipe without any luck and may have to move to a 3" lindsey pipe with my 2.5 B&B.
