Default Seeking assistance re: coilover springs

Hi,

I am searching for information on a set of 2.25" rear coilover springs I picked up.

They are black in color with a single blue paint mark. They are about 8-3/8" long uncompressed and are very clean without real signs of wear, so they may be in "new" condition. There is no part number to be found.

They appear to be a progressive spring type as the coils get tighter towards one end, and the wire decreases in diameter from ~10.5mm at one end to ~8.1mm at the tighter-coiled end.

In searching the archives here these descriptors have me loosely convinced that they may be 1987+ Turbo Cup springs. In this thread, about halfway down the page is a picture and these springs look just like those pictured.
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...p-springs.html

Anybody got any suggestions to identify them? One person has already supported the possibility of them being Cup springs.

If they look exactly like this, then they are what you suspected they are.

Hi Spencer, are you interested in selling them?

Also I have a few questions for you Jim… would you know where I could find a set of the upper spring hats? I have the shocks, but I’m without hats and springs.

Finally Jim did the turbo cup and turbo S cars use the same torsion bars?

TIA!

Here they are. You can see the decreasing wire diameter and the tightening of the coils around the blue dot.

Upper hats for the rear koni 8242 series (escort) shocks? Will probably have to have a set custom machined. Can call Koni or Truechoice and see if there is a snow ball's chance, but they have been out of production for years. So finding NOS spare parts, especially for a 944 specific application, is pretty unlikely.

I need some replacement rubber bushing inserts - so if by chance you do find some spare parts for these shocks, let me know.

The 87+ Cups used 25.5mm t-bars (same as the TS production cars) in combination w/ these coil springs (on bilstein or koni coilover shocks). They were indexed lower to maintain a low ride height w/ the helper spring/coilover setup.

Thanks Jim for the t-bar and ride height scoop!

The 8242 you refer to must be an option number? Mine have PN: 951 333 032 34 and 031 34 stamped on the lower body.

I sent these to Koni in KY for a rebuild requesting the hats. They also expressed the exclusivity of these shocks, but sent me standard flat hats which I may be able to work with, at least use for measurements. If only they could be run inverted.

Looks like Spencer’s springs are the real deal.

8242 is the koni model number.

The yellow ones are a NOS koni aftermarket set w/ the 8242 koni number on them. The orange set is the original 951 part numbered pair off my Esort/Cup car. They were originally yellow zinc plated, but were rebuilt at some point and got painted koni orange at that time.

Hey Lart, you have a set of the upper perches I circled?

If so, please PM me with a total to 43026!

Sorry Spencer for the hijack, moving this to PM…

Those are both factory front strut perch sets. The large OD are for Koni struts and the small OD are for Bilstein struts. They will fit M030 and Cup front springs.

How much would a set of the 8242's be worth?
