Those look like the 944 axles... I went with 951-332-038-06-M60, if you're replacing the whole unit you don't need to worry about the spline count.

I was concerned because there seems to be a difference between the 86 and 87 and later models. Is that right?

Karl,
Is your car an 86 also? Why would they have me buy the 944 part #? I am still confused.

Yes.. both of those axles will fit an 86, but if you're just replacing the CV joint then the 86 shafts have a different spline count. If you're replacing the whole axle you can use the updated 87+ version with the 951 part number... which I would *guess* to be stronger.

Any of those changes can increase wear and thus increase flex of the driveline. If you insist on continuing on running it, I would go as far as replacing it with a new one per race.

Rubber + track use != longevity.
It's clear that there is no lateral load on the CV joints due to the lateral trans movement since the movement of the trans is far less than the "lateral slack" in the axle assembly.

And more power won't increase the load on the trans mount. The trans mount is nothing more than a rubber exhaust hanger with lateral stops built in. It's just a hanger for the transmission.

All of the twisting forces exerted by wheel torque are transmitted through the torque tube to the engine (which is why it's called a torque tube) motor mounts. None of it is transmitted to the transmission hanger (mount). That's one of the main reasons to use a torque tube in the first place.

Well, I will be getting the 944 part # from Pelican tomorrow. I will install them and hopefully it will last. If not I will switch to the 951 part # axles. As for the mount I did the windoweld fix.

Call the Driveshaft shop. These are built to take whatever you can throw at them. Tony, I think these can handle your V8 with turbo's. Do some research on them. A friend of mine with at least 350 rwhp and Nitto DR's has run them for years without problems. These are going on my 3L turbo being built with lots of attention to reliability.

I am putting the splines on the axle now but I noticed the GKN CV hubs are different on either side. One side is smooth on the outside. The other side has a single groove that runs around the outer edge of the CV hub. Which side gets the splines and which side goes to the transmission?

Okay,
One of the axles has a red R painted on it. Does this mean passenger side? I am still not sure which one goes on what side and which side of the axle gets the spline into the hub. Please let me know what you think.
