Default Crazy? "Cardone" rebuilt brake calipers for $50/ea?

Ok so not a lot of hits here using the search function for brake calipers rebuilt by Cardone, so I thought I'd ask directly.

Few friends and I were each talking about cleaning up our brake calipers this winter. Fresh powdercoating, etc. Now I just rebuilt the calipers with new seals and scrapers last summer so it stings a little to think that I'll have to buy all new rubber again, on top of the powercoating fees.

The two friends are both 911 guys. Apparently brake caliper parts are probably the ONLY thing where the 944 guys get screwed compared to the 911 guys. It seems a complete rebuild kit (seal, scraper, AND piston) can be had from Sunset Porsche for ~$23 per bore (for the newer 911.) It's $60+ (depending on which piston and which vendor) for 944 caliper parts, per bore. So I started doing some digging.

And it seems that a local auto parts store to me, O'Reilly, can get me COMPLETE rebuilt brake calipers for $46/ea. They're rebuilt by Cardone. Rock Auto also carries them, and for the same price.

For $46/caliper, I tell ya... I'm tempted, especially if they've been re-powdercoated (or at least painted.) I have a set of calipers sitting under my bench in the garage to send in as cores so I won't even get whacked with that charge. And it's not like calipers are highly complicated pieces with lots of moving parts to screw up. Body, piston, and rubber seal... not much to screw up there, ya know?

Anybody tried them? Thoughts?

$175 for M030 calipers plus core (which for $50 you might not be inclined to return.)

I've also been looking into buying rebuilt calipers. 46$ after core charge sounds pretty cheap. I looked at them on Vertex and they are $299 each after core charge.

I'm going to stop by the local place on my way home from work and see if they can really get these for me at that price. If so, I'll probably order them.

I hate to be a cheap bastard but for that price... can't really beat it. I certainly can't rebuild them myself for $46 per caliper.

Cardone is fine. Inspect before installation but otherwise enjoy!

On RockAuto it lists the Cardone rebuilt calipers as "Return and Rebuild" only. Meaning you have to send them in and they rebuild them.

Do you *really* want to skimp on your brakes? There is a huge difference in quality between oem Porsche and "offshore" replacement parts.

Yeah they'd probably be rebuilt with melamine pistons and filled with panda venom.

I think Olli just sourced some brand new Big Reds that were made over in China and said they looked pretty nice. I need to find that post now because I want to say it was something like $550 for the front pair, new.

Probably the Centric brand ones, you can get them on rockauto too. Price sounds the same, so I'm guessing those are them.
