Doing some work for a friend, part of which is to install MMs... all goes fine till almost done, I notice the rail gage seems to be sitting kinda high. You ever hear of this problem?

Yes, the MMs are bolted in and the engine is down in the cups. Hoping it will settle once it is running...Bruce

I am pretty sure it isn't just that car. I had to install my fuel pressure gage with some elbows to get it farther down into the engine bay because I could not close the hood without leaving a pimple in the hood.

I am not sure how old my MM are as I haven't changed them since I got this 944 four years ago.

Let me know if you want pictures of my setup and I will take them when I get home.

It's a common issue that fuel gauges typically do not fit just at the end of the rail. If you replaced really beat motor mounts, well, you've just discovered the issue.

I went with the 9xauto adapter. No need to tap the fuel rail cap (which isn't really that great of an idea to begin with).

So what you have there is normal. Remove the gauge and make sure it closes. If it doesn't, well, something else is 'up' =)

mine was cracking the paint in the hood on my 951 with stock motor mounts. the motor would twist and my gauge would hit. mine did come with some angled pieces to correct this but now my motor will sit lower with my new mounts

Just installed new URO MM's, and although I'd like to hear opinions of the quality of those, I did not have a problem with the hood. But no FPG installed.

Take the fuel gauge off. You use it only to setup or measure the fuel pressure, after that it is another thing that can break and cause a fuel fire.

Or use an electronic sender like I do. I have fuel pressure all the time in the cabin, safely. Always good to know if you have fuel pressure or not! (or if it's steady, too high, fluttering, etc!)

I had the original Lindsey Racing gauge and it dented my hood ... typically some elbows are needed to angle the gauge down and away from the hood.

Just an FYI.....

About 4 years ago I did a 3.6 transplant on my 911....I used the Timmen's kit which included a Uro lower oil line. I had never heard of the company but didn't really think twice about it. Upon completion of the install I drove the car for about an hour and returned to the lift to inspect the work. The lower oil line had deformed and ballooned to twice it's original diameter! I immediately ordered an OEM line from Pelican and have since shunned all Uro products like the plague....

Thanks guys, all good comments - I guess I missed the memo on the gage being a fitment problem. I generally put on a fuel gauge at the first hint of a problem but its the kind that has a hose and is only for testing.

The original mounts were definatley bad. I was a little suspicious of the URO brand mounts but they appeared to be well built and were sold by one of the more respected RL vendors. Anyway, thats not my call and they are in now so I expect the owner to want to go with them. We'll have to do something with the gage though, I may have to shop around to see if I can find the original test port cap....Bruce

Just one last update to this thread for any interested in using these URO aftermarket MMs.... I only drove the car about 50 miles after it was all back together (its belongs to someone else) but my read of the mounts was that they worked fine - I didn't notice any bad vibes or other problems. Maybe others with long time experience can say otherwise...Bruce

You should not need the spacers for uro mounts. I used them on my car with no problems. It was a little tricky getting the mount to seat in the cross member.
