You don't need to change the cross member. LSD won't work. Different. You need to modify the shifter rod too. There must be a thread about all this somewhere with pics.

Thanks but really all credit goes to Tony Kelly for his "Kelly Mount". This mount has been tested extensively, it is cheap and it works.

Default 968 Trans swap in a 951

I did this conversion, and it was a very simple deal.

The only big difference is that the Left Side 968 Axle is shorter that the Right Side (RS is the same as the 951's) I used the OEM 951 cross member and a Lindsey solid mount. You don't have to change the 951 shifter or rod, as long as you have the 968 transmission mounted shift linkage.

The only pisser is that I don't have a speedo. Not sure how to retrofit the 968 speedo to fit my 89 Turbo S.

The conversion took me less than 2-hours to install: 951 out & 968 in.

Very NICE on the track. Used this configuration at Sebring and turned consistent low 2:27's. Missed a couple of shifts (forgot that I was driving a 6-speed) but the close ratio worked very well for me.

Here is a link to see & hear a 968 trans in a 944TS.

Does anybody know about the speedo conversions ?

Cheers Rokket

You need an 968 abs controller and a few other bits to convert the speedo, a search should bring some info.

for the track, S2 box is perfect...

for the street the 968 is probably better than a 44T box on a bone stock turbo....

why ? cuz you're able to get to peak hp at (whatever speed the car happens to be moving) in a hurry.

for cheap top end... the stock 951 has a taller 5th than the 968's 6th, right ? the 968 final drive is 3.778.

'44T box mated with the '44S 5th, even taller.

I just built a 1991 944S2 trans and put in a Guard LSD. The 944S2 trans is nearly identical to the 968 with out a 6th gear. At Sebring I was running out of gear/engine at nearly all of the straights. My best times at Sebring 2:27.03 with a 951 AOR , 2:27.3 with 968 and 2:28.01 with 944S2. All are LSD and on same tires.

are you sure the gear ratios are the same for the 1-5 in the 944s2 tranny vs the 968?
