Help to start 951
Hello:
I have problems to start my 951 engine. I donīt have ground from the DME unit to the DME realy 85b pin when I switch on the key, so the fuel pump doesnīt work. Anyone can tell me which are the conditions to have ground in this 85b pin G5 DME relay?
If I put the 85b pin G5 DME relay the fuel pump work and the engine stars, but in this case the fuel pump is always on.
Thanks in advance and regards

Clark's Garage has a good proceedure for making a jumper to put in place of the relay. It allows you to manually switch on the DME and pump. This is a good way of testing the relay. This relay is a common failure and I always carry a spare. The 993 relay has superceded the old one. If you are not familiar with Clark's site, it has a lot of usefull information, get to know it.

I should add that the fuel pump first runs when you engage the starter, not when you switch the ignition to "on". When the engine fires, the pump stays running.
The DME relay is a 2 stage unit. The first section switches on the DME. The DME closes the second set of contacts and that is what turns on the pump.

Put a small wire (stripped back) into the DME socket in 85b pin and plug in the relay. Ground the lead, start the car and then remove the lead. If the car keeps running, check that the starter relay wire connection is going to the DME connector. If it stalls, check that the lead from 85b back to the DME is OK. After that, it is in the DME circuit.
