I think you have misinterpreted something or I didnt make it clear.
Seat time is one thing. Seat time on that race is another. That is why I would run a stock / mild car the first time out. Learn the hill climb.
A good example is the n-ring. You can be a good driver, but if you dont know the coarse well, you arent going to be fast. Much of being fast is knowing the track (how late you can brake into what corner, and you going to be off-camber in after the crest of the hill, ect, ect)

Definately on my list as well!
What a shame that is is all paved now as that really added to the alure.
Good luck and keep sharing and a good attitude. Many posters clearly are giving advice based on their own driving level...... sounds like you have far more seat time than most here.
My perspective on this event - it's not about being "fast". it's about leaving margin for error, running under you limit and your equipment, and having a blast. Take in the experience, knowing how few have ever done it. Live it, breath it, love it! Share it!

this last year romain dumas entered the race. it was his first time ever going up the mountain. practice for the race isnt what you think it would be like. they split it up in 3 days and 3 different sections. romain actually broke the record until rhys millen broke it right after him by less then half a second. i understand that these guys are pro drivers but your comment about running a stock car to learn the corners and where to brake gets thrown out of the window by romain and other first time drivers racing up the peak. please dont turn my thread into i dont know what im getting myself into and im going to fail at this.....
MOVING ON
its starting to get cold and snow here in colorado so i will be pulling the engine out of my chassis and start doing the work on it. im going to use the compression ratio of 9.5.1. i spoke to a few engine builders that are well know here on the board and they think that 9.5.1 ratio will work just fine. ill be sending my 16v head to get the exhaust ports ceramic coated. until then please keep the flame down.

I haven't been been able to go the last 2 years, one year because my work wouldn't give me the time, the other because OUR WHOLE DAMN STATE WAS ON FIRE!!!!
I have been on the fence about which car to build for the mountain, the Mercedes or the Porsche... Still not sure :P

What is needed is a way to control boost to absolute pressure (psia) instead of relative pressure (psig). You would keep pretty consitant power all the way then (only losing power do to different pressure ratios and additional heating of the intake air charge).
