Default Project Pikes Peak

Ever since moving to Colorado 12 years ago I have been going to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Now it has become a dream of mine to conquer the mountain. For those who have never heard of it, just watch this video
It would have been cool to race it with some parts still gravel but now that its all paved it makes it easier to set up the car. My goal is to race it no later then 2014. I would love to race it next year but I'm trying to be realistic about it. Maybe with some sponsors I can make that happen. So sponsors are more then welcome !!! There are a couple different classes I can run in and they are, Pikes Peak open, time attack 2wd and exhibition class. It would be great to be the fastest person up the mountain but i would be more then happy just to make it to the top. I have a great deal of respect for those that already compete in the Race To The Clouds. Even the ones that don't make it to the top. So here are my plans for my 951...

-ENGINE
-100 mm bore Darton sleeved
-16v cylinder head
-blown944 stroker crank
-GT4088r turbo 30 psi
-dry sump
-E85
-Rogue tuning
-FRF manifolds
-custom cams
-8,000 rpm

-CHASSIS
-coil overs
-bigger sways
-solid bushings
-maybe torsion tube delete
-fiberglass
-DOWN FORCE!!!
-lexan
-full cage
-big brakes
-deciding on 951 LSD or 968 LSD
-wide wheels
-<2500 lbs with driver

please feel free to make any suggestions you might have.

That will be an absolutely crazy motor if you can get it to work/stay working. That kit would put you in the 600-700+hp range. Might want to look into these huge headstuds: http://www.heritagemotorcar.com/research/headstud.htm

This is my favorite Pikes Peak run, leave it to the French: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKjEMA6kYmQ

IMO the gt4088R is just to big.. you're better off going with a GTX3582R. at 30 psi you'll be limited to around 600rwhp. it is a lot of power but the turbo would be at its absolute limit of pushing air. with the GTX3582R you'll be able to achieve upto 700rwhp at 30 psi.

I got a real good deal on this turbo. Some people have also told me I should sell it and go with a different setup. I may go ahead and do that but for now I still plan on using the 40.

i'd say the same thing, to sell it and get a different (smaller) one.

you'll be able to make more power if done correctly with a GTX3582R

personally id get the GTX3582R with a twin scroll setup with twin X overs (with twin gates) to the turbo and achieve high top end with a good spool if you're going to all that effort.

Ive been thinking about the twin scroll and my Colorado 951 friends say with the right setup and antilag i wont need the twin scroll. I understand that antilag is bad on engines and turbos but if im only going to be using it for about 10 mins i think it will be fine.

Cool project - look forward to seeing it come together and really interested in the plans for lots of downforce. Now that its all sealed, I guess the "comedy" wings of the past are not quite so necessary?

It's a different race than it used to be, but it's still incredible.

Here is, in my opinion, the greatest Pikes Peak video of all time. Skip to the 1:00 mark where the action starts:

Nice wish list. However should take that money and enroll in many events and track school as you can.

Or you can go to troll school. I hear that Reno is instructing there now.
