So looking at airflow & IDC on the Dyno today, vs Sid's last runs at the track - we were quite conservative today! At the track he was making ~11% more airflow and pretty much a directly correlation to 10-11% more power. That puts his 522rwhp from today to ~575rwhp.

Agreed that 750rwhp is going to be tough. But frankly, the current setup isn't that exotic - boost is still very reasonable (low 20's), the head is still stock valves, and the turbo isn't ridiculously over-sized (GT35r size).

Maybe we it make 750rwhp, maybe not. But either way, it will be fun!

I'm 6 weeks post back surgery and off my game so, 3:15-3:25. Not sure as I only have 6 training runs after 8 months off. If I had a few more weeks or even a month, I would be at 3hrs.

So Dave, what do you honestly think the gain could be via cam and larger valves? I'm talking thin stems too and a minimal overlap high lift cam. Maybe you can help me design it?

Also I know you like my TB diameter, but do you think there may be any benefit to going to 75mm. I have Bruce's old intake that has belmouths welded in. I may flow both and see what they show.

Also, for everyone, I did learn that over 6300 I am coming into a restriction for sure, as the AFRs go rich for no reason.

Also, just to clarify. I usually start my drag races at 160 degrees coolant temp and end at 170. My runs were pretty rushed today and started at 185 and went to 187.

To be honest, flow those intakes and not just one way, suck and blow. What could you gain regarding valves and cam, hard to put a real number there but, a good bit for sure. A real cam does wonders.

The real secret is controlling cylinder pressures. You figure that out and you will be golden. Cam timing will make a big difference.

Also, consider removing as much friction out of the block as possible.

I like where this thread is going...I'm just not sure where that is...

Sid, btw, have you seen any more differences with the 3L water pump during the last few days?

it seems to keep temps down while cruising down the highway and while idling. Otherwise not too much difference.

dyno charts. I don't know what happenned with the last run. It had a hiccup while sppoling up but it shows a big dip.

I'll go back sometime soon and turn up the boost a little more. I was down from what I just ran at the track.

This was just a fun random dyno for me. Josh was a little late so I jumped on the dyno. I didn't even check the oil,, LOL. Josh tuned a couple spots on teh last two runs. For the most part this is exactly how I drive teh car daily. NO PREP for thse runs. It would be like taking any daily driver and throwin git on a dyno. I do wish we had a littel more time. The guy told me Josh was up next so I could just do mine and I knew Josh would let me keep going and then get his on. Unfortunately some other guys showed up and I didn't get as many runs as Id like.

So for those who would like to see the curves

very impressive Sid. I look forward to your work and I must say your hard work with these motors made my decision easy and try something simular to your 2.85l motor instead of just throwing a V8 in. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for sharing Sid. Unbelievable power for a 2.85L and at approximately 1/3 the price!

Just read Sept issue of PORSCHE PANORAMA. The new Type 960 with a twin turbo V8 is going to put out over 600hp and will cost between 300,000-400,000 euros.

I think your design is a better deal, plus no import taxes

Sid, what doyou estimate the build cost on one of your short blocks is?

I have tried following the build, but you are INSANE (i sued that in a complimenting way). As soon as you make a little more power, you crank it up more. You also have a pretty big turbo from my understanding.

Taking a step back, what do you estimate that your short block would do (HP) with a reasonably sized turbo? What about pump gas? This means something around 15-17psi in denver and a turbo sized for street.

This is exactly what I'm talking about...a specific tune for a 1/4 mile race car producing maximum linear speed in the intended target zone.....
