I'm picking it up late April on my way back from NYC. I'll drive it south from SLC to Tucson. I'll stay at my place in Greer one night, then head down to Tucson. My V1 and self control should keep me out of jail.

The intake was worked on internally, and we have even flow to the head. Interesting, the dropoff at silly HP numbers is the head.

Patrick, if you are going to run above 500whp with your race car, we found the 2.7 head is good for about 450whp with little drop in HP. I plan on running 17psi, and the stock 2.7 head flows as well as any modded 2.5 head. There is much room for more power on this motor, but without much more money into suspension, wheels, tires, etc., you'll break things often.

The fact that a stock 2.7 head with stock 951 exhaust valves, and slightly larger intake valves flowing enough air to make my motor easily show consistent high HP and TQ number was surprising.

We only port matched the head. This 2.7 S2 head is basically stock. If I have to pull the head over the next few years, days, or whatever, I'll have the head opened up for better flow.

Point here is the 2.7 head, as stock flows fairly well. Better than some of the 2.5 heads with $4K into machine work.

That is very consistent with my results using a stock 2.7 head (from the '89 one-year only 8-valve 104x78.9 2.7 motor, not the S2). Torque comes on early and fast but drops pretty far after peaking. It seems comfy and cozy in the mid 400's.

Does anyone know the cfm of the 2.7 head?
George, if my head tops out at 450whp I quit! ;-)

Tom, my mistake. My head is the 2.7 8 valve from the 89 NA head. Thanks for correcting me.

Interesting results George, thanks for sharing.

Are you still using the SFR intake manifold on this motor or did you move back to the stock one?

Patrick, there is much more to be had from the stock NA 2.7 head. I wanted to see what a stock 2.7 head would flow based on a motor with everything else ready for a different cam, head work, and much else. Proper head work on my/your motor will create greater flow and hp. I'm running a stock cam, stock 2.7 head and had over 500 whp. Opening up the stock 2.7 head and changing the cam and adding solid lifters will give you a huge advantage in terms of additional power. You have a dry sump, and much else. You'll easily see another 100 whp, but you may have the typical annual "normal" rebuild type of motor.

My high boost settings using C16 at 24psi is seeing 540whp and similar tq on a stock 2.7 head, but supporting mods on this build could make much more.

I'm happy seeing 430hp ans similar tq at just under 17psi using ****ty 91 fuel. My goal is to have reliability during the few track days I love to be part.

George, how do you know the 2.7 head flows as good as a $4k modded 951 head(ps- $$ spent means nothing, $4k for a crappy job = junk)? Unless you flow the two heads on a bench you are assuming. Not coming down on you, just wondering as it sounds like you flowed them both.

I have the $4K+ dollar head, custom cam, and the solid lifters, so we will see soon! It is getting close now. I am very good at wasting money, so I am trying to stay positive after reading this! If I could have achieved the same results with a junk yard 2.7 NA head, I think I might get sick to my stomach.

Amazing results George, Cudos!

I personally don't. This is what Garrity at Motorsport told me after years of working on these cars and flowbenching many head designs.
