Track Turbo Options / Advice
Question for the high power track guys - I have done some searching but still not sure if I should move on to another turbo or keep what I have and have it re-sealed. I'm currently getting a lot of oil in my charge pipes and some smoking. Also down on power. Catch can is dry so no blow by.
I currently run a Turbonetics Stage III 60-1 HiFi, ceramic BB, stage III turbine wheel, 8cm hot side (purchased from SpeedForce).
Motor Mods: 2.7ltr (104 over bore) steel sleeved with J&E pistons, Pauter rods, stock cam, stock valves, stock head, (port matched), vitesse MAF/software, 83lb injectors, 3" exhaust no cat and 100 octane fuel.
Considering the Lindsey Super 65. Need a turbo that will support 400HP at 19PSI. I want a bolt on ready turbo. The Turbonetics was not so bolt on friendly. Required a bit of modification. Thanks in advance!

So Cal tracks. Autoclub Speedway, Willow Springs, Button Willow, Laguna Seca, Chuckwalla etc.
I hit 5th on a couple of tracks (Autoclub and Willow Springs. Mainly I need full boost by 3500 rpm. I don't want an "on / off turbo. The Turbonetics has a smooth linear feel to it but I'm wondering if something else would be a better more efficient choice.

Your biggest decision is efficiency / bolt on. I mean, having been in friend's cars with journal bearing turbo Vitesse Stage III it's easy to say just run one of these. On paper a Garrett turbo will have more recent technology in it but it's not bolt on.

The super 65 is basically a GT40 compressor shoved into a T04E front cover. I think a compressor that large would be counterproductive if one didn't use a #10 hotside and at least a stage 5 wheel. You might see just shy of 60 lb/min out of it at reasonable track boost settings, should be good for 450+ rwhp and a really fast ride! You probably wont see much difference if you get it with the #8 housing and stage 3 wheel, but the #10 and stage 5/p trim wheel should rock your socks in comparison.

I really like the Kokeln stage V on the track car, which is comparable to the Super 61 of today. It makes 350 rwhp at 17psi with the MAF/chips/Mafterburner, head, etc, 348 torque. But we also don't go to any high speed tracks like Road Atlanta either - Hallet and TWS, Barber but those have been a while with the car down. Hope to remedy this by May.

well the question is will I have it back together and running by then? It's out and stripped down, if I didn't have to fly to Houston for a meeting tomorrow before going to work it would be rebuilt before I left of Wed. Going to try my best to make it...if they aren't full when I get it running.
Jim and I headed to pick up his 930 next time off, call you on that story.

I have a new option from Turbonetics featuring ceramic ball bearing and billet aluminum compressor wheel that will allow you to reach your power goals, while retaining a the smooth linear pull. However, it will require some modification due to the standard T3 exhaust housing. I will pm you with further information.

I run the Super65, not BB. It hits full boost at 3500, but it is realy very on/off. I have posted a boost chart in some other thread.
I am on a standard 2.5, so with a BB and 2,7 you should gain a few hundred rpm's.
I do some track days, and this turbo is not optimal for me. I want boost at 2800-3000, and more linear build. So i am going to a smaller BB. (or the vgt route )
But for fun, the Super65 ticks all the boxes. It realy is a fun and strong turbo. Oh, and it is realy bolt on. Just 5 min with a file and you are done.

Why are you thinking a custom turbo? The stage 4 was designed for a stroker?

I have the Vitesse St 3 and I love it. At the track I run significantly less boost than you though, 15 lbs. Turbo really comes into its own between 18-20 lbs.
