Came new/unused w/ a bent rod?

No, the rod was straight when new, obviously.

AFAIK it was only the early 86 cars that definitely came with the stronger block and forged rods, I think forged rods have been found in some later cars but who knows if those engines have been rebuilt or there was a cost option to have forged from new ?. My car was built in 1990 so I may be turning down the boost and revs after reading this thread.

Yes, those are the brake ducts I referred to. In my experience with US spec cars this is a correct statement.

Well, bad news about this method of determining rods: I'll get under the car and check, but I'm quite sure my car does indeed have those ducts along with the cast rods.

That's what I'm going to do, whenever I actually get around to rebuilding this thing.

thought this thread the most appropriate to bump...
anybody (Jim?) have data to the cast rods fitted to some 89 and 90+ 951s holding up under increased pressure/power?

the factory thought they'd be fine for 250 bhp, but how about 300 or more?

just curious.

Well this is an unpleasant reminder that I still haven't rebuilt that engine...
