Default Flat Slide Throttle Bodies

To start I found these in another thread that was locked. They were intriguing and posted by Raceboy.

I saw those and though way back to my motorcycle days with carbs.

One way to increase performance of carbed sport bikes was to add flat slide carbs.

The flat slides basically go rid of all the flow restrictions from the throttle butterfly. They made good power but because of a mechanical linkage (as opposed to vacuum) they could be instantly opened and if opened too fast, would bog the engine.

But it seems the estonian flatslides would solve some neat issues with 951s. They take up almost no space putting the "butterfly" as close to the valve as possible seems like it would help with throttle on a turbo.

It seems they are likely made from black anodized aluminum.

Any more info on these?

Lets not turn this one into a peeing match. It seems like a neat idea.

Maybe there would be ports for the injector to inject through?

Or make ports for the injectors behind the slides?

It wouldnt be that big of an issue to solve.

How about making a throttle with two concentric plates? Small one in the center for idle/part throttle and a bigger center-less plate that covers a large bore for full throttle. Concentric shafts wouldnt be to hard to make IMO, and a progressive linkage would be easy too. Sort of like stacking the secondaries on a carb on the primaries!

I ran this idea past 67 king and he was interest's but thought it complex... think it could be worked out with a few beers..

Shall we meet in Freiburg and figure this out? We do the fast driving FIRST then the beer.

Perhaps you could adapt a 964 throttle body?

Or an RX7 TB?

Or you could open up more flow at WOT by cutting the stock TB shaft in half since it would have no effect on part throttle driveability.

One problem I see with the flat slide TB is the need to seal it to hold boost pressure.

Progressive throttle cam is the simplest way to achieve good low-speed driveability and it is widely used on motorcycle throttles also.
Having progressive butterlies imo just overcomplicates it.

Slide-valves work very well even in boosted application and sealing the trottles is important with any kind of throttle (leakage from the shafts is common on regular throttles).

I thought slide throttles in the old days used to be notorious for sticking, often when wide open. How do these new ones address that issue?

What's the throttle opening diameter on those pups?
Thx.
