Default bolt-on rebuilt turbocharger recommendations for a semi-stock '88S

Rebuilding an engine, have the opportunity to replace the worn/out-of-spec factory turbo with a better, faster-spooling unit...so what do people recommend?

I have a line on a rebuilt factory '89 turbo or can send this in as a core (the 200k turbo) for a modded unit, or can pitch it altogether and go aftermarket. Recommendations??

send it out, get a 27/8 built with a 7200 wheel, have it clipped and weight reduced for quicker spool.. cost is about $750 at evergreen turbos... you have to supply the parts... but its a bolt on upgrade that can put you in the 320hp range

I have one of these, new in the bag still, from Evergreen. I may let it go. Actually, the impeller is a Holset, will be good for ~350 with the AFM, Charlie thinks 400 with a MAF and supporting system. Reason I'd sell is I was thinking of a 2.5L 16V, but I have now collected what I need for a 3.0L 16V.

There's a K27/6 on eBay for $450... It will still do the job, a little quicker spool.. Perfect for a street car

I bought a used K26/6 and sent it to Evergreen for rebuild/retro-fit to a K27 & trimmed fins for quicker spool.

If you are interested in doing something similar I have my old K26/6 for sale here:

Ive been in Will's 951 that has a k27/6 in it and it pulls like a monster, seems to spool about the same as the factory unit too just puts out alot more. its a nice setup.

Id imagine if you had to compair a K27/6 to a K27/8, the biggest differences will be that the k27/6 spools about 300-500rpm sooner but the K27/8 will hold peak boost longer. SO its really all about what your using the car for.

I've got a k26/8 with the k27 wheel. Supposedly it helps the spool a bit. The shop I took it to did it for free because they didn't balance it properly the first time they did the rebuild!
