Default Making changes to Turbo

Garrett T04E 60trim 0.70A/R compressor housing/KKK #8 hothousing Stage 3 turbine wheel

So can the above turbo be changed???? To a bigger hot housing?

As I mentioned in some earlier threads I bought Rage2's car from Soloracer.

Not sure if I want a #8 hot housing. Done some reading on Garrrett turbo's and have read info on Ren List but not completely clear

If I am not mistaken its a GT30 turbine on the car with the above specs. Trying to decide what to do with it. It will be going on either a stroker hybrid or a sleeved motor from Chris White......I think...

Thanks,
Jason

You can put on a #10 KKK housing if you can find one, but you'll find a bigger gain in moving to a Garrett T3 .63 a/r turbine housing over any of the KKK stuff. You will need to adapt your crossover inlet flange and downpipe flange at the turbine outlet to get the Garrett stuff to fit.

Thanks

I know of the other mods for mounting. I've done this with my 3.0L car setup.

I'm mainly wondering my options with this turbo

Jason - What motor are you putting it on? I made 410 rwhp with a #8 hotside with great spool characteristics. What are you goals?

Shawn, do you know if the 50 trim you used was purchased from me? I ask because I used nothing but #10 KKK housings with all the 50 trims I sold.

I believe it did come from you via RL member Rob. He and the guy I purchased from (onspeed) both told me it was a #8 KKK. It definitely spooled like an #8 on my 2.5L.

More than likely a 2.85 stroker or a sleeve 3.0

I would be very interested in knowing if it was an 8 or a #10 as I am getting ready to order a new Turbo from Charlie. He told me #10 would be laggy. He said he can build me a GT35 hybrid with a billet wheel using a #8 hot housing. This sounds very interesting but I need to see the specs. I know of two people with this type of turbo, Alain and Devon. Devon has not installed the engine yet. Everyone has seen Alain's dyno and it is incredible but also has a $5500 head.

2.5L, yes I know, but Charlie has been doing this for many many years.

I am sure it was a #8 hotside. Not sure how it ended up being a #8 but it spooled better than a k26/6 on my 2.5L. Here is the FS thread from Rob, who sold the turbo to onspeed, who sold it to me...Now Omni has it.

Edit: Interesting, Nize said his was basically a #10 and his spool was awesome. I am starting to wonder. If it is a #10 it is special for sure. Maybe Vic can enlighten us a bit.

IIRC, there was an "8" stamped on the hotside housing... I remember measuring everything, checking part numbers, and etc. to make sure the product I bought was as advertised.

Nize had a #10 and spooled near stock or better.

PM me your name and I'll look up your invoice. Based on backpressure tests of the #8 vs the #10 - nothing else changed, the #10 was a clear winner on reducing backpressure without any loss in spool performance.

The issue here is availability. Turbonetics will no longer make a #10 KKK replica unless you're willing to commit to a batch order of 50 units. Clearly there is a perception that a #10 is too big for a 2.5L engine, but the reality is that if you put a standard Garrett .63 housing - which is bigger than any KKK housing that will fit this 50 trim, it would perform even better.

Using a Stg 3 turbine wheel, a #10 turbine housing works very well with a 50, 60 trim etc.
