Oil pan differences
Back in 2001, I rebuilt an engine for my 86 944 turbo. I bought the block and head. It turns out that the block was from an 83/84 944 NA. The rebuild went well. I installed the oil pan from my original 86 951 engine with no problems.
I recently sold that engine and sent it to the shop the new owner has hired to do the install.
The new owners car is an 88 so it has the oil level sensor. They wanted to keep the oil level sensor so the shop has been trying to swap the pans. They are saying it can't be done because the bolt holes on the ends aren't in the same place. I've NEVER heard of this before. Anyone ever found that to be the case? I thought all pans had the same bolt spacing.
(I did tell the shop to put the 88 oil pick-up on if they are using the 88 oil pan)
(The shop also spent almost a week trying to get the timing belt cover to fit. I guess an 88 cover doesn't fit an 86 due to the differences in the belt tensioner)
So are all 944 pan bolt spaces the same?

They are the same, this is probably the same guy that accused me to be a fake for not responding in his time frame, the shop doing the job is worthless, I have an idea who is doing the job

He's alive!!!! Merry Christmas to you, Julie, and the kids.
I'm assuming it was out. I shipped it to them on a pallet. I doubt they would have installed it and then figured out they needed to change it. I doubt it but then again, I could be wrong.
I do have to say that he was very nice to me. I'm not impressed with the shop at this point. They had questions for me and spent way too much time on things that they should know or be able to figure out quickly.

Well, it has exceeded the 5 mile/ 5 minute warranty from Himselhaus motorsports.
OTOH, it was built very well. I put less than 2000 miles on it so it should be good for another 98,00-198,000 miles.
He(or the shop) would have to do something really stupid to have problems with it. It was perfect in my car, it "should" be perfect in his.

And what do you mean free?? I'm indebted to you for a long time. I promised you slave labor whenever you need it. You just need to let me know and I will be there any time. It's not my fault you haven't tried to collect. You don't call, you don't write.
