Muffler recommendation
Hi, a couple of months ago I dropped my catback to replace the muffler, previous owner installed a 7" round with 5" outlet which didnt suit the car very much but it gave the car a nice deep sound along with backfires when doing quick high rev shifting.
I installed a standard magnaflow satin stainless stell muffler with 3" inlet and outlet with a turndown tip. It looks nice but the sound is too soft for my taste. I'm thinking of replacing it again... which one would you guys recommend me ? I want a deep agressive sound, nothing too loud or too raspy. I'm running a stock cat by the way, maybe could I get a highflow cat ?
Thanks in advance for your suggestion.

I heard borla are a little raspy..
Thank you for the information but I don't really have $1200+ to put on an exhaust system Keep in mind that I'm in Canada and I would have to pay outrageous shipping cost and brokerage fees. I'm looking more into a muffler that I'll fit on my existing catback.
We have some great Exhaust products for your 944 Turbo 951. Make sure to check out our website also!

I have a manga flow on the LR 3" and it's pretty loud. I don't know that I would go any louder for fear of getting a ticket.
Dump your waste gate to atmosphere and then you get quiet for cruising and loud for full throttle joy rides.
Where r u located? How are you even driving around right now?

The Fabspeed 3" bolt on kit from the turbo back with slip fit straight pipe/race cat sounds great. I absolutely love the sound in 3rd at high rpms. In 5th on the highway it has a nice consistent sound that does not drone. They will also weld stainless wideband nut on the longer downpipe as requested. Of course I live near the facility so you can dyno there as well.

If you want the maximum sound deadening possible, while still keeping
100% straight pipe--i recently discovered these big triangle resonators that could take some of the edge off (as i desire an even quieter car). These resonators will probably be ideal for the 968 in place of the highly restrictive stock exhaust, and still tame the loud engine,
I'm sure it'll be even quieter for 2.5/3.0 Turbo's running a full Borla/Magnaflow type muffler. Does the 944T have the triangular tunnel section like the 968?
*see TR Series Triangle at the bottom of the page.

After 30+ years, i'm sure most oem 944T exhausts have long since departed. But most n/a 968s are still running oem. In addition to the 968's exhaust being so heavy to keep the n/a 3.0s w/ worn down motor mounts in check, the resonator is (also) far from ideal;

Drifting
Check with Richard Motorsport ... he’s in Trois Rivieres and he races in our 944 Challenge Series.
Luc is a nice person to deal with and he can probably hook you up with something , his shop also prepares race cars so
they know what they are doing !
Cheers

Burning Brakes
For cars w/ straight pipe & full sized Magnaflow/Borla out back, Running a large resonator might be preferred. My exhaust is pretty quiet. I'm running a 3 1/2 exhaust w/ 2 resonators in series in front of a big Magnaflow. But the resonators have minimal coverage around the pipe. So, the V8 is still preeminent; say if you pull up in a quiet neighborhood.

To clarify, you recommend the aftermarket triangular resonator(s) to be used in-line, in addition to the muffler? Or instead of the muffler?
Also, somebody gave me a hollow cat, completely gutted. Such are not required here legally. What works best with a gutted cat, yet stays as quiet as possible?

Yes, running that aftermarket triangle with Borla or Magnaflow out the back.
Get the longest triangle you can stuff in there.
The oem 968 triangle and muffler, both are more restrictive than the Euro exhaust components.
This was put in as a last minute change in 1991 in advance of their shipment to North America
for the 1992 model cycle.
