Default Lindsey 3" exhaust - louder over time??

I had the Lindsey 3" stainless steel exhaust system installed in December 2009. It uses a Magnaflow 14319 3" Polished Stainless Steel Muffler. Maybe I'm just getting older, but it seems MUCH louder now than it's ever been. The noise is definitely coming from the muffler, not from exhaust leaks. Is it possible that these mufflers get louder over time, in the course of six years?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quiet 3" muffler? As far as performance, I can always reinstall the Magnaflow before track days, but I need something else for daily driving. It's getting to the point of embarrassing to drive downtown.

If there is sound coming out from the muffler, check for cracks, holes, loose clamps, etc. right before it. I had 3" a LR exhaust, and while cruising around it was never overly loud. Mine wasn't SS, so I guess you can't exactly compare longevity between the 2.

One area in particular I would look at closely is the weld on the muffler where the body meets the tube. Again, don't know how well the SS welds hold up on those, but that would be where I would look first.

Mine has gotten louder as well, but not unbearable. I think the packing in the straight through muffler has worn (if that is possible).

Exactly.
Mufflers (fiberglass-filled) will 'wear' over time and become less effective at sound reduction.

I still like the sound, but not as much as I used to.

Try a Vibrant resonator in the center with an Aero Muffler in rear and I think you be pleased with the sound. More importantly, it will not change over time. Mike

I can't handle the drone of a straight thru "muffler"
I put this on years ago

I don't think mine has gotten any louder but I definitely do not like the low drone that it makes. I am probably going to add a resonator.

Mine does not drone, thankfully. That is the main reason why I am not planning on changing it. I have driven a lot of cars with drone and I can not handle that at all.

The Magnaflow is more a noiser than a muffler, but other straight-through units age the same.
