1988 944 turbo; leave stock ?
Thanks in advance for your input
about 6 months ago I spent top $$ and bought the above referenced car- I was attracted to it and spent top dollar as it was a very clean, black and a stock/original car- I am enjoying it more then I expected as it has been trouble free and very fun to drive
having said that I wish it had more power but I do not want to hurt it's value or reliability and have no plans to track it
I am uncertain if it is worth the money and risk as I have some very fast cars already to play with
I have looked around and considered LR 300rwhp package but do not know these cars well at all and am uncertain if it is worth it and if the performance improvement is going to be dramatic enough to significantly improve the car's performance
thanks

I would leave it stock, it's a slippery slope and you will spend more money on mods than you bought the car for eventually. I'm sure everyone on this forum will agree with me.
When you say you have other fast cars to play with what are you talking about? A correctly modified and built 944 can be 997 Turbo or C6 ZO6 quick not only in a straight line but faster around a racetrack.

Q+A: leave it stock?
allow me to answer your questions:
- the condition is excellent; car was featured here the end of January- original paint is in great shape, interior perfect, services current...California car that was owned by a Porsche mechanic since 1979
-"slippery slope"- agreed- Its very unusual for me not to want to mod any car I own just to make it more my own and too improve performance- I have a few late 60's early 70's muscle cars that are rare and I don't mess with those but this car falls somewhere in between those and a newer car that I would not hesitate to mod
-other faster cars include a 760 h.p, supercharged R8, Viper, and modded muscle cars
-budget/goals- I really like my stock 944T but do wish for another 100 or so h.p. so it feels a bit less tame-
based on the limited feedback I have received I think i should just stop being a dope and leave this car alone as it is a real nice, original example- trying to be smart but when it comes to cars I always think more power is better

I buy an average 25-30 951's per year out of those 10% are at least Turbo S's and the reason I'm able to buy them cheap is because the owners at one point decided to mod their cars, I saw a turbo s sold as low as 8k because too many mods, the cars bringing the big money are unmolested low miles turbos

Just what I needed to know, thanks
I will do what I knew to be right and fight the stupid urge to mod this car. Don't get me wrong, I mod just about every car I own but you guys reminded me why I was attracted to this specific car in the first place and why I spent so much for it. This one is best left stock and well maintained. I almost screwed up what has been well cared for for 28 years.

I remember your car from eBay and Bring a Trailer.

It would be a shame to modify that car as it's in amazing original condition.
But I can't blame you for wanting a bit more go - The Lindsay Racing 'Instant Horsepower Kit' with shims, chip, fuel-pressure regulator, and boost enhancer are pretty minimal/reversible mods.

Correct decision!
Now get another 951 and mod that one instead

Thanks guys. I recently did a major mod to my Audi R8. Installed a vf750 supercharger which is awesome and stupid expensive. Makes that car just about perfect to me. As much as I like it oddly enough I enjoy driving the 944 as much. The seats, the way the doors close like a vault, design....these are very cool cars.
And yes, that's the car I bought.

That car is far too original to start doing any major mods, and I would leave it exactly as is (well I would order a new coolant expansion tank, but that is just picking nits).
If you do decide you need more power, just make sure all the changes are easily reversed, and keep on the original bits on hand.
