Default Bridgestone tyres

I bought my 964 with Bridgestone S-03 tyres, which had been fitted in Germany. One of the rears is getting thin so I enquired about a replacement, but was told that these tyres are not recommended for Porsches and I could invalidate my insurance by using them.

Anyone else heard this?

Cheers

Never heard of the insurance issue, though its well known that, while the SO-2s where one of the best tyres for the 964, the SO-3s were nowhere as good.

agree with ricardo. i had S02 and S03's both on 996's. S03 is slightly better in the wet, but overall S02 and currently S02A's are far better IMOH.

When I went to Micheldever they told me SO2s are Porsche approved and SO3s were not.

Guys surely it's just a case of looking for the "N" type approval code on the tyre?
My S02's are N3.
And yes the insurance companies are quite within their right to insist on this. It is considered as an alteration to original spec, my wife (ex underwriter) seems to think that only el cheapo companies adopt this position though.

I use the Bridgestone Potenza RE-730...LOVE 'EM! ...not bad on the 'ol wallet either.

I use them for street/highway driving and the occassional autocross - they work well in that venue too!

If we cut out the Japanese tyres we would only be left with Conti and Michelin oh yes and K-Mart

Exactly... not sure how good that brand would be on a 964. If I was looking at another 964 to buy and saw Avon tyres I'd walk away. Call me ignorant, but they don't inspire confidence.
