The entire business end of the unit plugs in the wall and it comes with what seems like 30 feet of low voltage cable. This means I have no issue tending batteries on cars parked outdoors, as only the low voltage wire is exposed to the elements.
Thanks. Do you just run the cable out the door or window and close it on the wire?

Yes, on the cabrio, between the driver's window and the bottom of the fabric roof. On the coupe, (Audi) I just slam the door over it. It is pretty thin, tough wire.

I use a BMW one. It's worked for years. All metal etc.. Looks like it's called the "Advanced Charging System" now.

Plugs right into the cigarette lighter to keep the battery fresh.

Even if you can't find the BMW one, I highly recommend one that charges right through your cigarette lighter outlet.

Good feedback, thanks. They sell a cigarette outlet adapter for about 10 bucks on Amazon from CTEK so I’m going to get the CTEK 3300 charger and the adapter. I appreciate everyone’s comments!

1.5 years later, I can vouch for my CTEK purchase. I bought three of them and have been pleased with their ease of use and performance.

can you use the cig lighter on a 964 for a charge? I can on my gt3, but curious if its ok on my (new to me) 964, or if I should go direct to the battery, or use a lead?

I have 8 original Battery Tenders that are fantastic. A couple of them are the first ones that they came out with many moons ago. They are connected to British, Italian, German, and my John Deer.

+1 on the Battery Tender brand. I have had a cheaper brand that boiled my ATV battery dry. Since then, I switched to Battery Tender for my cars, tractor, ATV and motorcycles, I have never had any issues.

My cig lighter socket is wonky on 964. I go directly to the battery which is just as easy for me. Plus , no need to have a wire hanging out of the cabin. Just out the frunk lid.

If buying a new charger now, buy the ctek that has multiple function for different types of batteries, as more and more replacement batteries are AGM type and require a special charger

I had a Noco genius (single) and it was unreliable. Used as a battery tender, it shut off several times for no apparent reason. One of those times, the battery was toast by the time I noticed it was not charging. Gave that one away.

Battery Minders are rock solid. I have 6 or 7 of the 1510 model, some of which are over 10 years old. No issues, nothing to screw up while setting and the reconditioning works -- The last Odyssey in my RSA lasted 8 years.

CTEK is also good. I use a CTEK-7002 when a battery actually needs to be charged (the small Battery Minders will tender but not charge a battery).
