Unfortunately Porsche's COA's are well known to be rife with errors. It's seems particularly odd to specify a US 964 Cup as a race car as they were all sold as street cars through the dealerships.

I. have 3 CofA's for my turbo only one is correct and I had to send them a copy of my window sticker to have them get it correct.

Interesting but the last one shows Engine type as G50/01 vs G50/03 and transmission type G50/05 which should be G50/10. I am assuming the first 2 would have the LSD option code 220 as part of the Kup package? It is criminal what they charge for these and can't get the info correct.

Assume PCNA have the VIN’s listed as C2’s and just list the engine and transmission a C2 would’ve come with. On the option and window sticker they’re under model number 964 330 which designates in 1992 a C2 coupe (window sticker lists it as MY1992 Porsche Carrera 2 Coupe). A Carrera RS (which these Cup USA’s are much more similar to) are under 964 360. There isn’t actually an option code under “Carrera Cup Edition” which is what is on the window sticker. Assume this package was made up after the series cancellation when the cars were sold through dealers. These changes were likely ordered under the option code 14011 which is on the option sticker under the hood designating “special wishes”. They do list some of the changes on the window sticker from a normal C2 in the standard equipment section.

Funny. I say I always learn something new about these cars everyday. I suspect that since this was meant to be imported as a stock C2 so to slide under the US DoT radar. That is why it comes up in the data base that way. I don't think a different engine or transmission being noted would have made it without some red flag going up. After the 959 debacle Porsche was being closely watched and showing a different engine code was probably not a good idea. The factory data does not list the US spec cup cars but the RoW do get noted separately as Cup cars and under code 360 as you show.

Cup car question as I contemplate this project: Were cup cars also seam welded in the rear tunnel and floor, even though they had a cage? Or did they skip the RS treatment between body-in-white and cup conversions, possibly skipping this step since they were getting a cage that surely added more strength (safety) than the stitch welding?

Similarly, were these welds done from the interior, on the underside, or both?

The American Cups came from Porsche with the full RS body in white seam welding details completed. All race Cups are seam welded in addition to the cage. The welds are to reinforce the points where the input of force to the chassis from the rear suspension occurs and I imagine this would be more important with the stiffness of a cage added.

Springtime is knocking around the corner chatting with my lister now to put the Cup Car back in the market (RNM @ BAT last year for 228 and a private offer of 245) not thinking of going back to BAT if need be and i'm 50/50 between Cars&Bids or PCARMARKET?. Added maybe 300 miles since last year and in a week or two she'll be heading back to my local Indy for the customary annual fluid changes. The problem is everytime i drive the car the separation anxiety is getting stronger but i found an antidote to that by purchasing Dave's (Spartansix) Cayman S with DeMan's 4.0 X51. The car is ten times easier to drive and quick (around 2900 lb and 425hp), and if the shoulder issue becomes a problem i could take the C8 Z06 for some track time. Should be an interesting summer.

I will miss the Cup what a great car but not easy on the shoulders I can attest to that. My solution just don't drive slow. LOL The new monsters are nice. The 981 platform is so nice and easy to drive. With the added power it is a beast.

With everything being gone through and all new suspension, it is a bargain vs so many RS's being passed off as something they aren't.

Guy I know is selling Andial #24. Shows 36k miles and asking $297k. He sold this car a few years ago to a guy in the Chicago area. I believe Porsche Downtown Chicago had it listed for $390k. Was part of a collection of family used track cars for awhile. They had 2 US Cup’s (Andial #13 and #24) and a Turbo S2. Article on this racing family.

Current listing:

Wow that is quite old. I am surprised you found it. I know them quite well including the cups and the S2. The cup was incredibly rough as I recall and not anything like the pictures when I saw it last. They took the 2 cup cars to almost every track event. Ashley took my wife out in one of them and spun going into the hog pen at VIR. My wife was surprisingly Ok afterwards and still drives on track to this day.

I know the entire story regarding the S2. Nice car but not original to the S2 conversion. A valuable car none the less. Here are some pictures of the S2 I have pics of the cup car from 15 or so years ago but they are currently lost in my Icloud.

#13 looks pretty rough more so than #24. Glad to see they used there cars as intended and I’m sure it was great family bonding. Do you know if they still have #13 and the S2?

My understanding is they still have the one, which one it is I couldn't say. Last I saw it I was jump starting it after a night of drinking at the Oak tree. I believe they still have the S2 and doubt they will ever sell it. It is a clean example. They have moved on, now driving newer cup cars and Ashley is married with children and I believe works for Ferrari. Those were good times.

@2swoosh No just an OCD Porsche 964 geek.
