Default Long shot but whats your take on BMW 850CSI and 964

Hi there guys. Since I have always been a huge 964 fan I am thinking about getting one. My heart has been always beating for the Porsche but I have never owned one.
Also would would you say Porsche is better than BMW?
There is one thing that I have been thinking.
I have BMW e31 850 "CSI" as I had all moved from a crashed CSI into my 850 and I love it. I have put actually crazy heart into and and a lot of love At the moment I am having mixed feelings and some might say afraid of owning 2 cars. My car is N/A 400 hp with manual transmission
What would you do? Give me good arguments. I know its a long shot but would like to hear some opinions
Sell the BMW and get the 964?
A friend of mine said that when I would get the 911 I would just forget about the BMW.
Another friend that actually owns both said to own them both.
So What do you guys think?

Here is my e31.

Unfortunately I have no familiarly with the 850 so I can’t compare but if you truly love the car I would say it’s likely a bad idea to sell it to buy anything else. My suggestion would be to wait and buy the 964 and then decide if you want both or just one car. By the way, that’s a sweet looking 850!

Don't underestimate the bond and the effect that 850 has on you. Owning both, even if it's only for a short period might be the best plan.

The 964 is so different to what you are used to, and that will bring up a lot of emotion. The looks, size, interior, crazy engine bay, and that smell will be so different. New synapses will fire when you are around the 964. It will either be fresh and awesome, and you will totally connect with the engineering and feeling of the Porsche, or you will constantly be thinking the 850 is better for you. Only then will you know.

Keep both for a while until you comfortably know whether you are "converted" or just need both.

They are too different to say one is better than the other. That is why I won't get rid of my 06 M3 ZCP. BTW, nice car!

Keep both... it's not like the 850 is going to depreciate a lot while you make up your mind.

I know I keep coming back to the 964 each time my mind wanders.
Every time I go test drive another fun (sports) car I take the 964 there and home. Always, bar one car, do I feel better in the 964... immediately.

I owned a 997 and the 964 at the same time and a Cayman R as well at the same time. The 964 stays, the rest is fun, temporarily.

The only exception to the rule, 997 Gt3 non ClubSport... and I would not sell the 964 for it, rather just add that to the cars I own.

That's my story... you have to write your own. No right or wrong here.

Looked at some years back. Nothing really appealing about them to me besides looks.
Modest power due to weight, Poor handling.
My mechanic shook his head while informing me that the V12 model would easily cost twice the maintenance of the base 8 series, which is bad enough.
Hands down 964 for me (even at the time before I was a 964 owner.

Spend time in both and decide whats right for you.

My friend has a BMW 850 with the V12 and 6sp manual.

He has driven my 964 and I have driven his 850 many times.

Completely different cars.

850 is a "touring" car and feels quite a bit heavier than the 964.

Acceleration wise I would say the 850 is actually a bit faster than my 964 though we have not "raced" each other to find out.

I would say the handling in the 964 is way better than the 850. The 964 is like a go kart.

Not an expert here but I think the 850 is a lot more rare than the 964.

I don't think you can compare the two cars.

But based solely on the rarity of the 850 if you sell it it will be difficult to get another one if you change your mind.

BTW your 850 is stunning.

if you have the means, own both for 6 months then decide. This goes for any pair of cars.
I prematurely sold a perfectly sorted Audi B5 S4, missed it, and bought someone's else's headache. Now trying to get back to where I was before I sold the S4.

They're completely different cars. You may as well ask if you should sell your goldwing to buy a sport bike. Both can go fast, but in different ways. We can't decide that for you, but they're SOOOOO different. If you haven't driven a 964 yet, do it. Even a tired one is nimbler and more responsive than 99% of the cars out there. You'll know.

Don't get rid of the 850 until you have driven a porsche...any porsche, especially the modern older ones like the 964, 993, 996 etc. I think we all progress through so many cars over the years, but some just resonate with you and hold onto you. Everyone that asks my - why Porsche? - I just hand them the keys to mine, take their wallet and say drive one around the block and you will know. If you don't want to come back, then you know.
As for BMW, the same goes. Awesome examples of those are every where E30, E36 and E46 like Greg's.
