Default Country/Back Roads Mapping Service?

Making the trip from Greenville SC to Amelia Island next Thursday and just assume make the drive as interesting as possible. Looking at my Rand McNally Road Atlas (yup, I still have one) it doesn't show the smaller state rural routes I'm after.

Is there any online programs or apps that are good for piecing together something decent?

I like the old school fold-up State maps from the local gas station. Have a great/safe trip!

Have you tried Stave heatmaps? https://www.strava.com/heatmap#10.13....20326/hot/all

I've found the best solution is a combination of regular google maps, google street view, and the google my maps feature: https://www.google.com/maps/about/mymaps/

I build a general route on regular google maps, then use the terrain and street view (to confirm pavement, road type, etc.) and piece something together into a custom mymap.
It's a lot of work, but it seems like the only real option for custom long-distance mapping.

I appreciate the comments and will probably try them all later tonight. When I drove out west last fall I essentially just made a list of destinations comprised of small towns off the beaten path then let Google Maps point the way, veering off course when I wanted.

Hard to believe it was not too long ago I did a lot of this with hardly a map but dead reckoning, dumb luck, youth and free spirit.

We do multiple road trips in New Zealand and create our custom routes on Scenic, it’s an IOS app. We then download its offline maps and have a full navigation system with voice instructions. The route can be private or shared so others can use the same route later on. It says it’s for motorcycles but that’s just their target market, it works just as well in cars.

Another iOS app we are trying is Turnout. It allows custom maps and a convoy function so you always know where your buddies are if you get separated.

Checkout the Roads app by Porsche as I believe it is designed for this purpose. I have not tried it yet but I just saw an ad the other day.
