Andrew, can you confirm for myself and others that this requires a "core" from an existing light?

Thanks
Tom

It's going slowly. I'm spending as much time as I can between work-work and kids. I'm trying to keep the core design of the frame the same as the acrylic but made out of aluminium. I want to keep the cost down, but CNC-ing is very expensive. I might redesign the frame to limit the tool passes. The DIY version edge mounting will be improved as I wanted to do that for a while. The standalone (track version) will receive new mounting hardware and there will be no need to reuse your old panel. I will take order closer to the release date. Hopefully this year.

Thanks!
Andrew

Quick update on the aluminum panel. The black anodized frame looks really good.

The anodized frame looks very nice, good work. I cut a similar piece down from stock, and I’m happy with the results. Your kit is a lot less time consuming.

I don’t drive much in the rain, but are there any concerns about water? The lens also acted as a seal, and the plastic over the lights is not watertight.

My DIY taillight inspired by this thread.

Good work! Nicely done. I advice to seal the inner lenses using M3 weatherstrip adhesive. I run a bead around the lenses making sure it covers the gaps. When it dries it supports the lenses as well as protects from water intrusion.

That makes good sense, thanks Andrew. I didn’t want to spoil the clean look of the lenses, but I will have a go at this. The blue reverse lens look a bit like hidden police lights. My nosey neighbor was very concerned.

Update on the aluminum DIY kit.

I'm finalizing the extra steps in the manufacturing process to achieve the best finish and anodizing result. Also, I'll be updating the edge mounting to get the panel to align better.

Current cost to you (per 1 DIY kit) is $225 USD + shipping.
(With the production run of 10)
Please let me know if you are still interested considering the higher cost.

Thanks!
Andrew
