Rust!

Rust!
After paying the price for not cleaning the cowl appropriately before installing a new seal with a replacement windshield, I was checking for additional rust and discovered a pool of water at the bottom of the frunk. Following that up, I realized that the seal that runs from the windshield down the top of the drivers side fender was installed incorrectly and was the source of the water admittance. Taking the fender off revealed a Halloween surprise. Was hoping to tap into the expertise here and get an idea of what I should be expecting when sourcing quotes for repairs. Obviously it will need to be cut out, but will it be a simple weld replacement? What is reasonable in terms of cost? Would like to go into this armed with as much information as I can since I really dont have much know how when it comes to metal working. Appreciate any guidance!

Shouldn't be that big a deal. That area is completely covered once the repair is done- so cost wise, relative to the same thing on say- the outside of a quarter panel, where the shop has to take a lot more care in the finish- is not that bad...
That said- make sure you use a good shop that doesn't cut corners. Get it done right once and move on...
Most of us that have used our cars in the rain have the same- we just haven't gone looking for it yet!
Cost estimate- I'm not the expert- i would say a few k. But where i live, that would change DRAMATICALLY from shop to shop...

Drifting
For a wing off, well both in my case, respray including the bonnet, and other ancillaries I paid £3.4k.
However, mine was relatively superficial to yours unfortunately.

It is very difficult to weld thin sheet metal found on these cars. I did something similar with an E36 BMW. It is easy to blow through if you are not careful. If I had to do it again I would have just gone to an expert.
