Default New Gas Pumps

Has anyone else had trouble pumping gas into your 964 with certain pumps? I tried to use a couple of brand new pumps and they wouldn't even start and then click off like when there is too much pressure.. It acted like I hadn't even paid yet.
I think the nozzle won't stick far enough in for them to work. Is there an adaptor for this? I had to go to another station with older pumps so I could fill up.

Do you still have your original fuel filler neck? I upgraded to the latest revision of the part (993 part number) and it vents much better - no more fuel smell when cornering and no issue with pumps shutting off.

Rotating the nozzle 90 Degrees counterclockwise helps on some pumps. It’s even worse on the newer Porsche’s.

This has been my solution on difficult pumps over the last 15 plus years filling my 964.

Always had to pump slowly for me but that is fine as I never get tired of looking at the 964.

Not to be a broken record, but I too thought that this was just part of the 964 experience -- turning the nozzle to one side or upside down, filling slowly, etc etc. until Goughary convinced me to buy the 993 fuel filler neck. I now put the nozzle in the car, lock the handle on, and can walk away. It hasn't shut off early in years. Part is 993-201-043-00 and I think it's Porsche's ninth revision of the same part!! Only challenge of replacement is the big snap ring under the gas cap.

Interesting... my 87 3.2 was near impossible to fill no matter what trick I used but my 1991 964 is like a modern rental car, fill n forget. Check my email while its pumping etc.

I've always had to do the rotating nozzle. I have had this car for 12 years. This is something new. The new pump won't even try to pump. The handle does nothing. It won't pump the first drop. I had to go to another station with older pumps to gas up.

I wonder if the calibration is off at the new pump?

I was filling up my daily driver (less than 3 years old) and could not fill up. It would stop even at min flow rates. Had to go to another pump at the same station and it worked.

COSTCO got the new pump a couple weeks ago and I couldn't even put gas in my Ram. Call over attendant and he jammed it into the filler and said that the new ones have to seal to the filler before they will pump. Haven't tried on my Porsches yet.

There is a spring loaded mechanism in the black plastic apron that has to be engaged in order for gas to flow when you press the trigger...

Try to pump gas like that to the portable gas can with plastic screen built into it... guess how I know.

My son called it "a foreskin" system...lol !!
