Default Starter replacement question

Gents, my starter had been slowly fading over the last 6 months… now takes 5-6 tries (click click) before it engages. Once it engages, she starts just fine. I checked the battery and replaced the ground strap, which helped some but did not solve the issue.

So, I ordered a replacement (reman) and took off the old one. Removal went pretty well; the only hitch was a frozen nut on the positive cable, which i had to drill out.

However, the reman turns out to be a lot bigger than the old one.

New starter on the left. Old starter (2010) on the right

The old starter is a Bosch 0001115011 and is marked with a 2010 date. The new one is meant to be correct for a 964 but, obviously, is larger. Specifically, it’s 1.25” longer and almost 2lb heavier.

Should I install this new one or return it and look for another 0001115011? Thoughts?

I had that bigger one on my car and received the opposite as a replacement. Much happier with the smaller unit as it can more easily be serviced with the engine in the car. (C4)...

If it fits, install it, but if the size makes things difficult, replace. Easy enough.

Thanks, that helps. I’ll exchange this one for the smaller unit

The Bosch reman starters are well known for not lasting very long at all, do yourself a favour and spend the extra $$$ and buy a new unit. I have a reman sitting on a shelf, lasted about 18 month.

Yes, put a new one in my C2 and no issues. Would also favor smaller, space is tight up there.

😁 Thanks Ricardo. Yours actually looks like the one I already have; the larger of the two options. Just under 12” long and about 10lbs, yes?
