Question 964 CCU conversion to Manual Op

Greetings 964 forum members,
It's been a while for me ....
Has anybody successfully converted the stock 964 Climate Control Unit (CCU) to earlier style, manual sliders plus potentially some sort of manual fan control and deletion of A/C?
I can appreciate the complexity of such mod given how many fans the CCU controls. However, the deletion of all servos and problems associated with them seems like a worthy proposition to me.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers,
L

One of the very reasons why the 964 is one of the most popular air cooled 911's is that it retains the overall look of the earlier 911's yet has all the modern conveniences that make it a pleasure to drive. One of those improvements is the servo controlled heater system, so why on earth would you want to remove it?

For the record they are not problematic. The only reason why they fail is that we are at the end of life of the components, i.e. servo motors, fans and CCU and owners baulk at the expense of restoring the system.

The best solution is to have the servo motors rebuilt (typically around £120 each), fit new fans (aftermarket available from £150 each) and finally have Bergville rebuild the CCU with a new sensor and fan. Then you're good to go for another 20 years.

In my opinion.

Thank you Nine Meister,
Yes, I get your point. I already rebuit two servo's. My fans are working fine, and they need to work regardless of the conversion I had in mind. The CCU fan is a tricky one, Bergville indeed has a replacement, I am aware of it.
I like simplicity. The servos do what pre-964 owners used to do manually - control flaps. Fans could be operated manually as well.
I am curious if such upgrade (call it downgrade) path even existed.
Thank you for sharing!

I've had all sorts of 911's and been in this business for over 30 years. To this day I still get early 911 owners coming in without a clue as to how their heating system works. Funnily enough, never been asked that about a 964 or 993.

Just sayin'.

I think Robt964 has done it, look at his build thread, amazing thread by the way.
But he removed AC and I think his oil cooler fan is activated separatly with sensor from Revotec .

I would be into buying one of these, if they had an option to convert it to a simple manual solenoid/fan controller. Ditch the CCU temp sensor fan, the automatic temp control, AC control, and oil cooler control.
