Oil Use
Hello, I bought my first Porsche, a ‘93 964 C2 one year ago from a Rennlister in Yorktown, VA. Some of you may know him, works at NASA Langley.
Anyway, the car needs a quart of oil added on a somewhat regular basis.
It does not leak oil, not even a drop. The belly pan section below the engine is gone, so the path to my garage floor is open for any drips, but she stays dry.
The odometer isn’t functioning, but I’d say it’s less than a 1000 mi. between quarts. I bought a case of Brad Penn and I’ve used a few quarts in one year.
Question:
Can anyone explain where the oil is going?
I’m guessing the reason is that it burns off, or evaporates … so to speak. But I’m curious to hear from other owners.
Thanks,
Jim

An oil consumption that you describe here, is most likely due to leakage between piston / cylinder and or worn valves liner. You should of course first check the aeration from the engine to the oil tank

Would be helpful to know the mileage on the car. Exhaust valve guides can show significant wear at fairly low mileage.
But in any case a quart per 1000 miles is nothing terrible!
