Default Exhaust clamps…my stupidity?

So I bought a used primary muffler, g-pipe and tip to fix the janky exhaust my C4 had when I got it. I also bought new OEM donut gaskets and clamps since my car didn’t have any…but for the life of me I cannot figure out how these can possibly get bolted up?!?
The bolts seem too short? Or they just catch on the edges of the clamps and won’t push through. What am I doing wrong here?

You're missing the seal ring part # 964-111-247-01 that fiils the gap that's inside your clamp and between the pipes.

You may need to use a G clamp to start them off

It is actually there, just I have an old one in the pic to see if it fit any better than the new ones I have. It doesn’t haha.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try.

I bought new exhaust clamps from FVD when I bought my cup pipe, since I figured fresh ones would be nice. They were similarly too small – the bolt wouldn't even remotely get to the point where the bolt could screw in. They looked smaller than the stock ones to me, so I just used the existing ones. Not sure what was going on, unless the old ones stretched over time and I needed a clamp (as mentioned above) to start them off.

I wish I had used stock ones to use, but my car had a straight pipe from the previous owner that I’m now correcting. I wondered about heat over time stretching them as well!

The original Aeroquip clamps are much nicer and of a higher quality than the 'OEM' aftermarket replacements manufactured by Dansk. I'd take a good used set of Aeroquips over a new set of Dansk.

You can really crank down on the stock Aeroquip clamps to get the pipes to seal. I broke the welds on the Dansk parts I ordered and luckily I found the stock clamp I thought I had lost.

I did too. Binned the Dansk clamps and re-used the ~30 year old Aeroquip clamps, still going strong with no leaks.

The FVD clamps had a manufacturing issue for a while where the welds didn't hold under pressure. They replaced two for me as it was a known issue. You can't see if they are from the bad batch until they brake.
