964 Knowledge
Hey everyone, I am new to the 964 club. If anyone has any cool reads i'd love to check them out. I feel like its against the Porsche religion to do motor swaps but i'd love to do a LS swap. Has anyone ever done an LS swap? I've seen one and it was an extremely tight fit, but i'd love to hear what all of you have to say.

IMO putting a Chevrolet engine into a Porsche kills a lot of the character of the car, even if it improves the performance. I wouldn’t think anyone buying a 964 these days would want to change the engine in that manner given the costs of car acquisition.
But that’s just me.

I would not swap a 964 for many different reasons, but lots of people are swapping 996 and 997 cars and I can understand the attraction there. Check out the Swapped Porsche group on Facebook. Popular motor choices for the 996/997 cars are GM LS V8s, turbocharged Audi 2.7L V6s, and turbocharged Honda K series I4s.

I say bollocks to that. The 964 motor is an absolute peach. LSs? Yeah, they're cheap horsepower like Duratecs are over here. But they're not special.
You desperately want to do an engine swap on a Porsche? Sure. Do what a pal and I brainstormed a while back but never actually got around to doing, and that's a 'modern' 912. Cheap 996 with IMS failure, and a crashed Impreza. Combine the two.

There have been numerous LS swaps in the past and even some EV conversions. They haven't been popular lately as it was done as a cheap way to gain HP when you could buy a 964 coupe for $20k all in. There are people paying crazy money for clean tubs and other platforms are more expendable shally we say. So few 964's remaining it is a shame to waste one on an LS swap. I sold a 944 that will eventually have an LS swap. fFar better and easier platform to do it on. and the performance gains realized. The LS is actually lighter than the stock 944 engine.
It is yours to mess with but in all honesty the boxer engine is what makes these so enjoyable and desirable and a well built 964 engine is something special. The LS will rock but it won't be half as enjoyable to most.

There are plenty of people turning 964's in to things they aren't these days so doing it simply to be unique really isn't that unique at all IMO.

no offense, but to get into a 964 to simply do an LS swap is missing the point of the car 100%. the flat-6 is the 911. the 911 is the flat-6.

When I was young and into the VW scene I did some bigger power engine swaps but it was always still a VW. If I had a 964 or 993 with a blown motor then I would be more interested in putting in a GT3 motor. No idea of the fitment and packaging challenges but it would still be a flat 6 and sound awesome.

Forgot to mention these guys in Vegas, they have been doing V8 swaps in Porsches for decades... https://www.renegadehybrids.com/911.html
