Angry Starter blew up??

Has anyone had a starter break off in the engine before? The whole head is stuck not allowing the motor to rotate. Do I need to remove the engine to service or is there a trick to get it out?

No, you do not need to remove the engine to take the starter motor out. Do a search and you will find lots of information on how to do it.

Are you saying that the starter gear and shaft have sheared off while engaged with the ring gear on the engine? Have you already removed the body of the starter and still have parts stuck?
A picture would be helpful but if the small gear that engages the engine starter ring gear is broken off the starter, it may be binding with the ring gear. Possibly rotating the engine very slightly with a wrench on the fan pully will release the pressure and you can pull it out.
