Default 964 timing chain/sprocket alignment (picture)

I've disconnected the right side timing chain and sprocket to work on some oil leaks in that area
W

964 timing chain sprocket
ent to put the chain and sprocket back on the camshaft and the assembly is about 1/4" too short to seat over the camshaft. SEE PICTURE. Am I going to have to take chain and sprocket off the other side. The left side chain is under tension from the tensioner. Thanks.

John. Yes I have the sprocket oriented correctly. It appears that the chain is a little short which is odd. It had the proper length when the sprocket and chain were taken off the camshaft.

That is odd. I just had mine off to address oil leaks. Did you mark the position of the chain and sprocket? Otherwise you will have to go through the whole timing process. Are the ramps seated properly? Only other thing I can think of that the chain came off the sprocket on the other end. Not good.

We had this when assembling an engine. Check that the other end of the chain on the IMS is correctly located on the sprocket.

The chains on each side are independent. Have you removed the tensioner all the way on the right side?

Turn the crank a little bit from side to side while you pull on the chain, that should release the kinked link.

There should be more than adequate play in the chain. Either the tensioner is not completely removed, the chain has come off the sprocket on the layshaft or the chain has a folded link and is stuck or is hung up on one of the rails. That is all I can think of.
