Default Power Steering Lines

I had the upper seal (read connection to steering shaft) blow a seal and steering fluid went everywhere including inside the car. Since I have an electrical power steering pump I was able to turn it off - but rather hard to steer without functional pump.
Any way I dumbed myself taking steering rack out and did not label which line connection at steering rack is power fluid in and which is return. There 2 line connections 1 is higher than the other. Does anyone know (for sure) if the upper connection is fluid IN and the lower connection is the low pressure return.

The schematic shows a banjo bolt fitting on the top port and only a hose clamp on the bottom if that helps?

Thanks - but that is the fitting on the power steering pump. I need to know the fittings on the upper part of the steering rack. I may be shown in the lower part of the diagram that you posted but it is cut off . Thanks

Hi Gus,
It looks like the lower hole is the pressure and the top the return, 14 is the pressure I guess, well it is leaking a lot when failing ...
From the drawing, following 14 it seams to go to the lower hole.
I had on my file this picture bourough from a thread I read here long ago.
I hope that helps
Best wishes
Konstantin

Gus,

I just replaced the steering rack on mine.

The higher line is the return (out); which if you follow it back along the frame it will be clamped and NOT have a fitting because it is not under pressure.

Hope this helps.
Don
