Default Oil Puddle

So I went out in the garage today, and noticed a massive oil puddle under and behind my 964, like it pissed out all the oil. The car hasn't been driven in about a month, and the oil was changed about 4-5 months ago. The car leaks like all air-cooled cars do, but what could cause it to dump all the oil?? I haven't had a chance to get under the car to take a look yet. Hopefully someone has seen this happen before.

Got underneath it today, and looks like the seals around the chain box covers are toast.

That is the most common leak/weep point however it will not dump 10 qts of oil. Are you sure it drained all the oil? Unfortunately the only way to repair the leak is to pull the cams and housings and replace s the seal. A picture would be more helpful.

The boxes can go bad by either cracking or corrosion if improperly cared for after 30 years. They are made from an aluminum alloy with very high magnesium content so they aren't fond of grime or moisture at the seals. I have a chain box that was badly cracked and it didn't leak a drop so I think you might need to look more closely at the problem. Usually a full cleaning of the underside and running the engine (after topping it off) will show you where the problem is.

I’d put money on the oil return tube seals. The oil will slowly seep into the case over time and fill up the case, and leak at the seals.
reach up and grab a tube, if you can rotate it or easily slide it back and forth you have your culprit….
