Default Revised gearbox shifting issue ( shift sleeve )

On my 964 I fitted a 993 6 gears gearbox that I had serviced from a Porsche specialist and fitted with 2nd to 6tth cup steel synchros and 8 / 32 final ratio

The gearchange itself is good but especially when accelerating hard and shifting from 1st to 2nd when you take it out of 1st gear there is some kid of mechanical effort release that can be felt trough the lever

The best way to describe it is a bit as if you would take it out of gear when accelerating hard without using the clutch at all

The clutch is almost new and the Porsche specialist suggested that I could not fully press the clutch at that moment... well it s partially true that if you really take more time to anticapate everything the problem is almost not noticeable but however I ve driven many other manual 964 or 993 in the same way

and the problem is not there at all and it was not there before the 6 speed gearbox.

On the 993 forum somone made a suggestion

I m not at all a gearbox expert so I d like to have some more details about the sheeft sleeve and if it can indeed be fitted backwards or something like that as well as any other suggestion

Thanks

On 993 both gears are symmetrical, unless someone has rebuilt it with a street GT3 asym unit.

GT gears thanks a lot for takiing the time to reply

From what I know the gearbox it's a second hand gearbox from a 993 Carrera 2 ( EU version non RS but from the model year with slightly shoter gear ratio )

The Porsche specialist opened it and changed some bearings and on my request fitted the steel synchros from 2nd to 6 ( they suggested 3rd to 6 , as 1st and 2nd were much more expensive and I requested them to leave or use an OEM brass for 1st but to use a steel for 2nd )

They also fitted a 8 / 32 brand new final and OEM 993 C2 Rear LSD and new OEM clutch disc

The car is also fitted with semi rigid engine mounts ( metal and polyurethane ) with OEM 964 Carrera 2 transmission mount ( with powerflex insert ) and with the Rothsport and FD motorsport quick shift and golden rod linkage

So you would say that except if some GT3 gear was used then the shift sleeve could not be installed backwards as everything is symmetrical ?

Do you have any other suggestion on what could cause this " out of gear tension release " ?

Thanks

I’d be looking at something clutch related. Either pedal throw or slave cylinder related.
