I had something similar but the bulb is deep and it would hit the rear of fender housing (I also have glass fenders, so no idea if they're more or less shallow than OEM). I've since replaced them with LED drivers w/ integrated bulbs. Much better and the entire assembly is now in the headlight itself, nothing behind.

Search for my posts. I posted about LED bulbs I've successfully used in my 964. Direct swap, no modifications of any kind.
