You might enjoy this picture of a new fuel cell for a Type 964 or Type 993. Specs are:

•constructed of carbon fiber/Kevlar for combination of strength and weight

•77 liter capacity compatible with Porsche on-board computer

•bladder made from new FIA approved lightweight FT3 material (weight approximately 50% of other favrics)

•bladder nut rings made of drilled lightweight composite material

•oval plate made of carbon fiber/Kevlar

•cell contains dual wet pumps connected to Catch Tank via Goodridge G-Line XF Hose (PTFE Smooth Bore Hose with Convoluted Exterior and Braided Kevlar Jacket)

•all electrical connections through quick disconnect plug

•cell contains baffles and trap door to avoid starvation

•cell contains FIA approved rollover valve

•cell contains 150 micron strainer/filter

•Goodridge aluminum fittings used throughout

•uses stock Porsche fuel sender

•can be filled from stock location pr using dry break system

•plumbed for use with overflow hose

•plumbed for use with charcoal canister

•attached to fuel system with Symmetrics aluminum quick disconnect valve with chassis lanyard

•dual high pressure fuel pump/filter package with carbon fiber mounting bracket

There you go Robert, gave you a hand in posting the pics...

...NICE UNIT! Any chance you want to send me one so I can "test it out"?

I promise, I'll write a full review!

Cannot get you a test unit but I can promise that you will not find a lighter, stronger, more complete unit -- nor one more easily compatible with a Type 964 or Type 993. And, surprisingly, its cost would be less than that of a fuel cell for a Porsche Type 996 GT3 RS.

And, by the way, this cell was designed to allow the use of a real carbon fiber strut brace, picture attached, one of the very few units that actually does something (most of the multi piece designs have so much flex as to be but minimally useful).

Can't get me a "test unit"?? No fair!

OH sure, just tease us with all these carbon fiber goodies and don't offer a "test pilot" program, man oh man. You just like waving candy in front of babies, don't you?

Instead of teasing with carbon fiber, how about a cast titanium upright (Radtrager) weighing 3 pounds (factory race version weighs approximately 9 pounds) and providing proper cooling for wheel bearing and brakes (ala F1)?

Or, going back to carbon fiber, how about a carbon fiber fire bottle with lightweight hose and an alloy bracket?

And, at some point, perhaps a carbon fiber swing arm with bonded titanium ends and a titanium center lock system.

And for my last piece of the evening, a carbon fiber A Arm with bonded titanium bosses and monoballs for Type 964 and Type 993 -- a fraction of the weight of the original-- and stiffer!

Those are some nice pieces. Sign me up for being a test mule. Good work.

This carbon stuff is great eye candy, but I bet it comes at a decent price. But the carbon finishing looks to be of a very high standard.
Can you tell me where this stuff is for sale with pricing?
Any more carbon or kevlar bits? Keep them coming.

At this point nothing is for sale. All of these components and quite a few more were done in connection with a rather serious engineering project aimed at weight reduction. In fact, a Type 964 has been used as a test car and more than 350 kg (771 pounds) has been removed -- and this without replacing any of the steel body panels with carbon fiber or plastic and without removing any of the luxury features (e.g., A/C, stereo, etc.). In other words, if one took a present Porsche race car such as the GT3 RS weighing 1100 kg per ACO regulations, at least another 350 kg could be removed -- and each new component is stronger and/or more functional than the original (e.g., the uprights provide cooling which the factory race part does not, the carbon fiber swing arms are stiffer, etc.). As to the standard of manufacturer, you are right, it is very high. In fact, all of the parts are designed by persons whose principal work is F1 and manufactured by firms whose work is F1 and aerospace, i.e., in the automotive world, there is no higher standard. Finally, should the group wish, over the next 12 weeks, I would be happy to post additional pictures as they become available.
