Save the Flash (Dirty old Porsche drivers)
Hey there fellow 964'ers
I was reading a nother posting in the general section of the Rennlist Forums about Porsche drivers not greeting each other when passing each other ........
I reckon we all owe owselves the pat on the back for even being able to own and drive these machines, therefor, would like to ask that we "Save The Flash". Just a little wave, a flash of the headlamps, but acknowledge other Porsche drivers no matter what they drive, 996 993, 964, 924, 944 ... hell even if they drive a Porsche tractor. Honk, Tip your Hat, Nod, whatever.
We are after all supposed to be "Porsche" owners and drivers, we have a reputation to live up to !
SAVE THE FLASH!!!!
If you're ever in the Cambridge Area in the UK and you get flashed by a slightly balding (but helluva good looking) chap in a Cobalt Blue C2 .... Its probably just me "saving the flash!"
Regards

In my experience impact bumper 911 drivers are the most enthusiastic flashers and wavers.
Boxster/996 drivers are the worse, probably too distracted worrying about how they are going to make the next HP payment!!!

Hi George,
funny that you said Boxster and 996 drivers are the worst flashers. I discussed just that observation with two friends (also 964 drivers 90'C4, 92'T2S) last night and we came to the conclusion that the waterboiler drivers generation is way to snobistic for us. Maybe they're no real 911 enthusiasts, since I'm sure that most of the Boxster and 996 drivers don't have a clue that the real 911 story began in the 60's.
Best regards THOMAS

A few months ago I was driving my friends new BMW M3 and came around a corner and another M3 waved at me just like the old days in a 356. I was so taken by suprise I didn't wave back!!! I can't remember the last time I've been waved to so I don't do it anymore.

Interesting, but I've noticed that too. Especially with the 914 not being a real Porsche label going on. I'm sure everyone here on Rennlist would give a friendly hello. But most people in the bay area... man...

Letter of the month in 911 and Porsche World (last month?) magazine touched on this topic- you all should check it out- very funny about hierachy of Porsche drivers and when to stop and help other P-Cars in distress!!
In all honesty, reckon that there are still a lot of 996 drivers out there who are genuine Porsche enthusiasts- have many friends in their water cooled cars that use them on trackdays almost every other week (and they all started out with 3.2 Carreras or 964's years ago...).
If we keep flashing, we might be surprised to see some of the 996 boys coming back with a flash...Complete 964

Hey i own an 84 944, live in a small town in southern fla, on the east coast. i frequently make trips to Daytona (i go for school most of the year) or West Palm Beach, it seems that 90% of other porsche drivers do not even acknowledge my prescence on the road, i flash/wave and they just keep looking straight, i mean is the road REALLY that interesting? i wave or flash at anyone from 914s to 924s to 996s to 968s, no one flashes or waves or NOTHING!!! its so disappointing to see that hardly anyone is conscious of their surroundings on the road, i mean, i spot the cars miles down the road, no reason they couldnt notice a fellow p-car driver and salute or what have you... just common courtesy. [quote] 996 drivers don't look at other cars when driving; they are distracted by their enormous GPS navigator.

Thanks for that Herbie, really made me chuckle this morning!!!
Still can't get my head around why anyone would to spend a couple of grand on a colour TV with sat nav in the front of their car, I have always used three methods for finding a destination, an atlas (cost £10), road signs (free), ask someone (free)!!

Mike B. - I lived in FL for more than a dozen years and the only response I ever saw from other drivers was them waving their middle finger. Soccer Moms, old ladies, Bubba, everyone seemed to do it. Must be a local culture thing.
