Exclamation Horn problems

Hi all

yet another "quick" question to ask if I may:

the horn on my 911 either doesnt work at all, or issues a very weak 'parp', which is embarrassing to say the least. I understand that it should be dual tone, but it sounds like just a single weak emission (if I'm lucky enough to get that).

First problem is trying to track down the damn thing - when I ask my wife to sound the hortn, it just doesnt work so I dont know where to begin looking! so any help directing me to it would be great

I know that the relay in the fuse box is switching because I can hear it whenever the horn is pressed - it just doesnt appear that any connection is travelling to the horn itself.

Is there anything obvious to try?

It might be worth noting that the steering wheel is not standard, but appears to be a Porsche replacement (I've checked the wiring to the wheel - it seems ok too).

Thanks in advance!

Ian, the twin horn trumpets are located inside the right/front wheel arch.

If you suspect the horn button, can you remove it (or the steering wheel) and just short out the horn lead by touching it to some metalwork?

LOL terry

but in order to pass its MOT, I should have it fixed

I have tried shorting out the contact on the steering wheel - it produces the same 'clicking' from the relay in the fuse box, so I guess it is sending the signal back - it's just not getting through to the horn <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Try putting 12v directly on the trumpets connectors, you may have a non operative diaphragm inside one of them.

I put a pair of air horns on mine as I was so embarrassed by it all. Even now my wife tells me its not that great, but it will suffice for now.
